Hi Australia MINI people,

I was just curious if the R56 (new version Cooper, Cooper S) is available at dealers there yet.

G'day Dan,

Yep - they have been here for a few months now. He he, the local dealer guy keeps trying to tempt me with a test drive, but I am resisting.

I am very happy with my R53 and having just got it sorted with wide-body kit etc. am not about to trade up. So avoiding a test drive stops me from getting the wants!

If the car you have has been upgraded to the point that it's just what you want, a new MINI probably will have things missing (be they power, convenience or visual) that you want and are used to. That's how I avoid the wants, I compare the new one to Alice. If it's not noticibly better, why would I trade?

My 03 MCS is making a very similar number of horses at the wheels, according to a dyno last month, and in a couple of months, it will be paid for free and clear. As I said, it has to feel enough better than my current car to make me want to throw another 10 grand into a car when I don't need to. If I really want my car to do more, I can spend for go faster bits on the R53 that aren't available yet for the R56.

What can you do to make the steering on the R56 as good as it is on the R53?
