Not at all, we were talking to the dealer down here in Canberra the other day and he was saying that even though the numberplate surround was specifically deleted for the Australian market, a few cars still came in with them on. Just makes yours that much more unique

Just took a look, nice shots!!

One question. I was looking at the same model DVD/Monitor Alpine you have (since we sell them ), does it obstruct the tacho at all??

It's an Alpine IVA-D310 with a KCA-420i iPod adapter.

It obstructs the fuel guage, the alert lights, and the oil temp. I solve the fuel guage thing by using the range on the computer....any alerts come up with a chime noise, so I'll be able to check that.....oil temp, well...I'll just have to be careful.....

See Pic:

Besides...I don't run it open all the time. If I'm in traffic, city driving, or driving at night, I tend to have it shut, because even dimmed, it draws your eyes back into the car.....

I'd like to put sat nav on it, but the only thing I've been shown is a VDO system, and apparently that will cost me about $3k to integrate into the HU!

I suppose what I really wanted was sat nav in the car. I bought this on a whim as I saw it was so incredibly cheap there compared to Oz....Why are we so bloody expensive here???

Do you have any suggestions on the nav front for this HU?

It's Canadian (read, American) spec though...so I can't play anything but region 1, 0 or 9 ....apparently Alpines are really hard to crack.....I hear there is a guy at Alpine Australia that does it, but it's 'cash only' and he isn't doing these models yet....

....do you know anyone that can do it??

By getting it in Canada, I saved over $1k after duty....
I'm all for supporting local business, but not if it's going to cost me that much... ...if I can't crack it, I'm going to test a ps2 on it to see if that will work...I'll loose the touch screen functionality though...but for under $300 for something can can fit in your glovebox (and i'll get GT4, which I wanted to get anyway), it's hard to beat (if it works!)....

...only problem is, I'll become one of those ***** that have a PS2 in their car...

If you are going to put it in your car, you may need some bits (if you can't make them yourself at work). I have HK...and still use the amp/speakers from that.....so I had to get GBMini's HK enabler and some other stuff from www.newministuff.co.uk]mikeythemini[/url]. Both of them are very helpful...

I got an aerial adapter, fascia adapter, the MFSW adapter and the HK enabler from Mikey....all of them work fine....(the MFSW is a bit laggy, but it works nonetheless)...

The HK enabler makes everything run very loud...so I run the HU 2/3rds faded to the rear, and that makes the volume incriments just right...

Once I get to a few events with other Mini owners, I'll probably offer discounts to ppl I meet .

We will probably go the Clarion DVD/Monitor as it has better ipod integration, and 3 yr warranty.
We will be ditching all the speakers, as this is a demo vehicle for the business.
I will investigate the multi-zoning for you, I am an electronics tech by trade, so I'm sure it wouldnt be that hard.

There are also a few GPS options, ill also check em out for ya

BTW, we have a device that will integrate with the HK system, without the problems your experiencing

I would be indebted to you if you could help me on any of those fronts....

I'm pretty sure Alpine don't sell their nav in Oz though...perhaps I could be wrong?

The iPod integration on the alpine is solid, but the interface can be annoying. The scroller is slow and if you want to get to the middle of your artists list (or whatever) it can take ages.....you almost have to pull over to do it. It also can't go 'backwards'....so...if you scroll to an artist that starts with say, the letter 'F' and then view their songs, it will start playing and leave you on that screen. But if you go to the song info screen...(ie. track time, vol etc etc), you can't go back to the songs from that artist. You have to search for the artist all over again!! It's very annoying. I've gotten around it by making play lists....

It'd be nice if you could make on the run playlists as well.

The D310 is nice, but there's a few annoying interface quirks. The sort of thing that you wouldn't find unless you'd been using it a bit...

The pulsetouch still rocks though!

I'm happy with the HK enabler though. My last car had a few bits in it (a few years ago now), and I enjoyed doing the stereo myself, however, now, I'm happy with the HK. I have less of a desire for 'doof' than I used to as well...!!

That would be very cool...! If I can get time off the the German Autofest, I'll come on the Sunday and you can have a play with it...

I'm installing a handbrake switch and GBMini's auto-up circuit for the passenger window in the coming week..

And worth every cent. If you're getting one, make sure to get the track mode (and garage door opener if you can use it) version. They can't easily be added later.

2 toggles? That sounds like the car already had a circuit in it. Did your mate buy it used?
