Scavenger Hunt, Sat March 29th
Scavenger Hunt, Sat March 29th
I'm really excited about our first scavenger hunt! How well do you kow AR history? Did you know the Capital was built on prison grounds...while the prison was still there and in use? What about the boy spy from the LR area during the Civil War? You will be intrigued by Arkansas' history, hopefully enough to really visit the places you will get a taste of. Plus, you will also get a taste of LR's beauty.
The hunt will be located in the downtown Little Rock area only. If you aren't from the area or don't know LR very well it won't matter. You will be given a map that has every destination and your clues will tell you what you need to know.
You will need: a co-pilot, a digital camera (cell phone is fine), and some change for meter parking (this is only required once, parking everywhere else is free).
The scavenger hunt is set up like The Amazing Race. You will be given several numbered envelopes with clues and interesting facts about the place you are going. You must perform these clues in their numbered order. There will be several 'check points' where you will pick up several more clues. Winners will be based on arrival at the finish line and the task completed.
We will begin at the Little Rock Visitor's Center also known as Curran Hall at 1:30 pm. You will need to be there BEFORE 1:30 to pick up some items you will need for the hunt and sign the guest register. You MUST sign the guest register that is your first task to complete. Curran Hall also has brochures from all over the state. So come early enought to browse through the information and pick up anything you may be interested in, all info is free.
Afterwards, we'll gather at one of the many choices in the River Market district. (I'll let ya know that when I figure it out.)
To get to the LR Visitor's Center, from I 30 take the 6th and 9th streets exit, turn west on 6th street heading toward downtown. Parking for Curran hall is just off the exit ramp on the left at the corner, there will be a Visitor's Center parking lot sign. Curran Hall is located diagonally across the street from the parking lot.
Please RSVP me if you would like to participate. I've had facilities ask about the number of people to make sure they have enough of what you will need from them (I know a little confusing, but can't give too many details.)
FYI: almost every clue is different and none of the routes are in the exact same order.

I've got news on prizes. Crosstire has donated a free tire rotation; Advanced Auto Parts on Dave Ward in Conway has donated a $25 gift certificate, plus several items from Roadshow's Boutique.
We've got till next Saturday (29th)! I'm very excited, this is going to be so much fun! If you haven't RSVP'd yet, don't forget!

This Saturday is the big Hunt! It's going to be so much fun.
I went by the LR Visitor's Center last week, make sure you take the 6th St exit off I 30. Turn right and the first corner on your left is the parking lot for the Visitor's Center, you'll see the white sign. The Visitor's Center is actually across the street from the parking lot. There is limited parking in front of the Visitor's Center, this is where I'll be parked if I can. I ask that you park in the lot on the corner to make the starting point fair for everyone and since parking in front of Curran Hall is limited I don't want to disturb that for other visitor's they may have.

I have had a few request about soloing this Scavenger Hunt. A co-pilot makes it easier if you don’t know the area and in helping finding answers to clues, but I will not require you to have one. I just want you to come and have fun!
This was GREAT fun!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Carrie for putting it together. To everybody that missed it, we are going to make it an annual event for charity, so be sure to do it next time. You will enjoy it a bunch.
We learned a lot about AR history and got the bug to go back to places we had to run through during the event.

I want to thank everyone who came out and participated in the hunt. It was a lot of fun getting this together. Next year will be different and I will probably pull together a few others to brainstorm and such. With basketball season ending (tournaments) and taxes rolling in at this time, it got a little tough getting it ready. I think a few of the clues showed that.
Sorry.
I hope everyone really did have a good time and learned some about AR history. I've learned a lot and found myself intrigued with some of the 'corruption'. I also hope that you guys will visit the museums again; maybe we could do a group thing one Sat and take in several of the museums together.
Next year will be a charitable event, there will be a cost to participate. And if next spring is anything like this spring we'll have some Arkansans in need!

No drive by 'shootings', you need to stop!
