New here! Just got my Mini last week. Bought it used from a guy in Memphis, and he got it at Roadshow. Yellow convertible S with white bonnet stripes and checkered mirrors. Live in Mayflower, but work in Little Rock, so I get to spend lots of time with my Mini. I do have a question. I do triathlons and need a hitch for my S so that I can haul my bike. Any advice. I'v only found one that will work and it seems really high priced. Anywho, there are pics of "Sonny" in my gallery.

Welcome! This may be the "high-priced" product you reference, but MINIFINI.COM is known for its Sport-Link products specially designed for the MINI, and they have a towing and bicycle rack product.

Not easy to install the first time around but wow...great fit! Took me three hours but could save half that the second time. Needs two people to marry hitch to the car.

Hi crews. I'm going to pm you b/c I too live in Mayflower. I have the hyber blue cabrio, black stripes and checkerboard side mirror caps.
I also have a trailer hitch. We need to get together and I'll show it to you along with the instructions. It's from MINI Do More. MINI Fini's is neat but you have to drill holes in your bumper and you can ONLY use their products which are not cheap. MDM's is a regular trailer hitch made for the MINI that you can purchase products from anywhere as long as the weights and all that good stuff work.
Check out the Conway thread.

Pull the trigger??

I am seriously considering ordering a decked out JCW but I am concerned about where to get it serviced or repaired for warranty work if needed. I see that Mini is offering a complimentary 3 yr maintenance plan on a new one, but I live in Rogers AR and the closest dealer appears to be OKC. Anyone know of a dealer closer or someone else who can perform service work?

Same problem for me - we live in the Bent Tree subdivsion in Rogers, AR. We purchased a MCSa Sidewalk - pictures in the Gallery - from Baron Mini in Kansas City and that's a three hour drive. IMHO you only want a certified Mini dealer working on your car and we are aware we are going to have to drive to get service. Forget the local Beemer dealer. His useless.

I have noticed more and more Minis aroun d the area but keep an eye out for us. We have those stripes going on!

Sidewalk

Thanks for the reply. I'll check out Baron Mini. They may be a little closer than OKC. Good looking Sidewalk you have! Do you know of anyone who owns a JWC model or have you personally driven one? Just wondering how much more "umph" it really has over an S.

Nope - not closer. However, I found Stephanie very easy to work with and Sam the parts guy is awesome.

No JCW's around to compare when I bought mine - I actually bought it off the lot and had them put the aero kit and stripes on.

My wife has pretty much taken mine over so I am starting to think about ordering another!

Hi,
I have an '06 JCW, but it's supercharged, not turbo. As far as the difference, it's noticeable, I had an '03 S and when I got the JCW, they told me that the increase in HP was about 25% over the regular S, so there would be a huge difference, similar to the difference between the regular Cooper and the S. There's no question that the JCW package adds 25% in the HP department and that is significant, a huge difference though, I don't really think it's that HUGE. Maybe a half second faster 0-60. The president of AMOK has a regular S and she can give me a run for my money.

Here's my take on the new one though, since the new JCW package is only an additional $2K or so (mine was $6500), I would do it! Why not? The gas mileage goes south a bit with the added performance. My old one, the '03, got about 29 in town and 32 or so on the highway, now I get 26.5 all the time. The best thing about mine, is not the added HP, it's the up graded suspension and oversize brakes. They really help when you hit the curves hard. If you are a "spirited" driver, for sure, get the JCW. It's worth it. Also, be sure to get the JCW suspension, brakes, etc. if they aren't included in the package.

I use Roadshow in Memphis, but that is probably farther for you guys. They're great though.

Drive it like ya stole it! Later

Here's my take on the JCW and S; it's not worth a whole lot since I have an S and have only drivin Popeye a few times. (Hi Popeye I agree with Popeye, get the JCW brakes and suspension. I love the brakes! The pick up is more in the JCW than a S. Popeye can leave me at first push of the pedal (). Don't worry too much about the drive to the dealership, you'll enjoy it (unless it's just really bad road). When in warranty I didn't like the drive to Memphis, but you get used to it and I really like the guys at Roadshow so the trip was worth it. Once you are out of warranty, there may be someone there by that time who can work on them. There are a few here in the Little Rock area that do.

Those of you in Rogers - Popeye and I will be up there August 15 - 17 for the AG Russell Knife Show (my husband makes knives). We'll be at the Embassy Suites convention center. Come by and see us. Some of THE very best knifemakers in the WORLD will be there and some of those are from right here in AR. You will find knives you can use and some just for collecting.

I had the 16 inch Dunlop Sport 5000 on my MINI originally. (Runflats). I got only 20,000 miles on mine. Sorry, but as my husband says, I was brutal to those tires. Maybe you will get more.

I remember looking for answer to same question when my stock 16" Dunlop all-season runflats on 03 MCS looked like they needed replacing due to tread wear ~ 23k. From what I found, if you got more than 22k out of these you were doing pretty well. Most posting got in the low, mid-20s; didn't see more than a couple of posts "claiming" even 30k.

After finding the stock 15" runflats would be ~ $200 per tire to replace, I switched to OEM 15" wheels w/ non runflat tires several years ago, and have never looked back.

I just took the drive to Dallas this past weekend to get dyno-tuned by Revolution Mini Works. Met some really cool Mini people down there, and got to see some seriously highly-modified Minis while I was there. Even got to ride in a JCW with the same mods as mine for power, plus the brake and suspension goodies for the track. Three Minis went to dinner after Friday's dyno efforts (mine got left in the shop, hooked to the dyno). On the way back from eating, there was nobody on those big Texas highways. The ride would have qualified for a part in the Italian Job. Way cool!
