Arkansas MINI sightings
I'll let Mark make the official announcement of his Deimos (picked him up today!), but on the way to Roadshow we saw 3 MINIs nearly back to back on I-40 east of Little Rock. There was a PW one, a BRG one, and a CR one. I didn't see if they were MC's, MCS's, or whatever. Also, we waved at them and didn't get a single response that I saw. On the way back we saw another CR, though it might've been the same one we saw on the way there. We got her attention this time because there were now two MINIs zipping toward Little Rock. She stared, but didn't wave! Grr. Does no one do that any more? I don't know how many times I've waved now and got nothing.
Anyway, we'll be posting pics of Nic and Deimos tomorrow when Mark gets home from his dad's place. By the way, that was a fun trip from Memphis to Forrest City (where we parted ways). We were talking to each other on the our ear pieces the whole time to make sure we stayed together, and I kept feeling like I was acting something out of the Italian Job...lol. These cars are surely too fun to be legal!
By the way, for those of you planning to make the trip to Roadshow next weekend - we may be accompanying you. Nic needs a new driver side window motor and back window seal, but they had to order it so it wasn't able to be done today. Hopefully it'll be in by next weekend. Roadshow's inventory is ridiculous right now too! Soooo many MINIs...so little money!

i'm so excited for you guys , but at the same time, i'm not the lone nfr anymore :-( i'm going to RShow next Sat. 9am for my first service, if the part comes in and you go, let me know and we can convoy.. somewhere between 86 and 90 mph of course.. Don't want to get TOO crazy ;-)
I'll be leaving about 7 am at the latest from Conway.
I reserved a room at gold strike in tunica that night, i think that should be a tradition since i did that when i picked up Toro and preceded to win enough to pay the sales tax!! This trip my goal is to win enough to pay for about 1/2 of what i spent on christmas.. I'm not greedy.. ;-)
Email me at tess@conwaycorp.net if you want to 'convoy'.. are you sure you can keep up??

I got carded a few weeks ago (you know the covert op in which someone sticks an AMOK card on your baby)... I was with a friend and she looked confused, I had to explain to her that I was now part of this whole sub-culture. Too bad Marge (my Astro Black Mini S) is now sitting in a wrecker yard :(
This morning I saw a CR/Red roof MC, as I was pulling onto E German, I waved.. he kind of looked at me like I was crazy, so I waved again.. he hesitantly waved back, lol, like he was a little scared.
He turned into the new Christian school near 286. He didn't have a passenger, so maybe he's a teacher there. It's a brand new one, no tags on it.
Saturday, I need to get some AMOk cards, then I'll have them when I find him (and others). I could stop by the school one morning and see if its in the parking lot.
Also, I saw a white roof, either black or dark green going into Conway on I40 this morning, I was on the other side of the Interstate not sure real sure on the color.

We saw a CR Cabrio today in Dardanelle. Quite a shock. We were in Nic II and tried to get their attention, but I think they were focused on the traffic ahead (and rightly so). Always good to see other MINIs in your home town.
Yesterday (1-17-08) I saw what I believe was a PH w/bonnet stripes in Russellville, though it might've been black, and very shortly thereafter a CR/W also in Russellville. Neither person saw me.
I'm so jealous! I have been driving Minerva exclusively since I got rained on the other day- once she was already dirty, there was no real reason to try and "save" the wash job- but I haven't seen a single other MINI, nor has anybody seen me! I've been to Hot Springs twice, and generally when I am there I see at least ONE MINI, of course I am always in the Altima when I see it...
I'm so lonely... Oh well, I guess if I'm not seeing other MINIs it means I am all the more unique in my area.

I wouldn't worry about it too much ML. I've yet to have another MINI drive wave back at me when I tried to get their attention. I suppose now that MINIs are more available to the general auto market in the form of pre-owned vehicles and such, the exclusivity isn't quite as catching.
But you're right, if you're the only MINI driving around, you certainly are unique! Even if we do have probably the most popular MINI colors in existence

I know someone else posted this sighting a while back, but I have another picture. (finally got my disposable developed). Is there a name for a group of MINIs? A gaggle? herd? menagerie? flock (they do fly!)?
whatever it's called here is one

Last night I saw 4, one was all Pink with a big white dot on the roof; one was lime green horizontally across the bottom half of the car and had a cityscape with one tall pink building in the middle of it on the top half of the car; one was all black with a creepy guy in it; and mine was all rusty
yeah.. it was a dream. Vegas and my Mini.. I occasionally have weird dreams about both, am I obsessed?

Hah, I was about to say..... odd dreams though!
It has to be because Tech is back in session, but lately Mark and I are seeing MINIs every time we go into Russellville. Yesterday, on the way to the tire and wheel place, we saw a CR/W (or maybe CR/UJ, Mrs. MINI?). And then later, we saw another of which I can't remember the color. But we've gotten two waves now!! Woohoo!!

I don't know about the S but my mini is slowwww. I just know it handles great in the curves and is comfortable to drive and gets good gas mileage.
Edit: However, I am working on a turbo-charging project with it. My thread is somewhere around here...
Today, at I40 and 65 I saw a CR/W that I've never seen before, at a glance I thought it was Bethany, but there no UJs that I could see, I waved, but couldn't turn back to see if I got a response.
It wasn't me either. Minerva was resting cozily in the garage yesterday- I got her clean and I am NOT keen on washing her again while it is this cold out. I drove the Altima yesterday for the first time in forever, and it felt like my grandmother's floaty boat of a car.
Given that the Altima felt SOOOOO sporty after the Xterra, I CANNOT imagine driving it now. I remember thinking it felt like driving a slightly overweight, middle-aged Labrador Retriever. I could just see it gallumping along, tongue lolling out, big dog-grin and all.
Now that my nerves have recovered a bit from the drive the other day, I am ready to go again! I have noticed that I need to get some upgraded suspension bits, however...

Every time I get into my '97 Ford Ranger (p.o.s. edition!) I feel like I'm going to fly off the road when I take any curve. Not to mention, I can nearly turn that steering wheel 360 degrees before the truck changes directions! It's always soooo weird to get into it after having driven Nic II for any length of time. I have to keep the stupid thing around though because I have to go buy several 50lb bags of livestock feed, and those just ain't goin in the MINI! Not that they wouldn't fit, but they're FILTHY. So I'm stuck with it.
Funny that you mention recovering from the drive the other day. That evening, Mark and I went to Barnes and Noble before going to the Rave to watch Cloverfield (don't waste your money, btw), and every time I got in the car, my legs felt completely exhausted. I guess I was clenching my muscles so much during the drive I wore them out! It was a ton of fun though, and I still get a smile on my face every time I think of seeing the huge train of MINIs in front of me and behind me, and the looks on people's faces as we passed - well, on people's faces who were standing on the side of the road or waiting at an intersection. Those we were passing like maniacs probably didn't care much for us!

Oh yes, I know how dirty those bags of feed get. I get my dogfood for the Shelties at the Co-op, and NO WAY are they going in the MINI!!!!!
What livestock are you feeding? I love critters, all kinds, furry, slick, scaley, slimey amphibians, feathered.... I knew you had the snakes; what else?
We had a couple of large (like 4' + ) black snakes (don't know ecactly what kind) in the back corner of our "yard" last spring. I didn't mow the back half of the yard for weeks so as not to disturb them. They stayed, always in the same corner, for a while and then were gone. I'm a little worried about them; never saw them again. I hope one of the neighbors didn't do them in...
Give me a few minutes - I will put a photo or two of them in my gallery. They were very docile and nice.
The photo is there now if you care to see it.

Your snake visitors were black racers (Coluber constrictor). They're very common here in Arkansas and completely harmless. And despite all the stories, no they don't chase you! lol I actually have a baby black racer I'm keeping in my classroom right now.
I currently have, in addition to the snakes, emus, rheas, a llama (guards the big birds), mute swans, peafowl (India blue and Javas), chickens, and two pairs of Mandarin ducks. They keep me busy, needless to say.
It's always good to find other MINI owners who are animal lovers. I found out Bethanie and Russ (Mrs. MINI) have a parrot of the same species I used to have. I'll definitely have to get by there and see him.

Well I definitely am. When I was very young, the very first time my mother let me play outside all by myself while she went inside to answer the telephone, I came to the door shortly carrying a toad! My mother's face looked like this:
. I excitedly told her, "Look Mom! I caught a Betty!" The toad's name was Betty...
I bet you are busy- I have three Shelties and two Japanese Chin. They keep me busy. You are lucky; you don't have to brush most of your menagerie! Speaking of, I have to get off here. Time for baths for Chinnies.
Thanks for the positive ID on the snakes. I think they were in my yard to visit my gophers... The racers are welcome any time they want to visit the gophers!
