Hey everyone,

I am interested in buying downtubes that will fit at 2006. I have a MINI Cooper S, but both Coopers and Cooper S's have the same interior. As well, if you have a 2005, they will fit for sure as well. I'm not sure if the design changed from 2002-2004, so if you are selling those, let me know if they will fit.

I don't care what colour they are because I will be painting them. I'd prefer anthracite because the finish is apparently easier to paint, but in the end it doesn't really matter. I am just looking for good price and good condition.

I live in Canada and I have a few friends in the States that you can ship to if you don't want to worry about international shipping.

 

I have a set of 06 and 05 (no lip) if you are interested in either. $30, your choice of either.

I think if you're looking for downtubes to put INTO an 05/06, you can use the tubes from any year. I put the JCW carbon-fiber tubes in my '06 with no problem, even though they're identical to the earlier downtubes (no flared lip at the bottom).

I'm interested but can anyone explain what this "lip" is? I guess - unless the 05s look much better because of the "no lip" - then I just want the 06 because that's what I have now. Any pictures?

 

The lip isn't visible when the downtube is installed. Basically, the bottom end of the downtube is flared out a little bit right at the end. This means that when you're inserting the downtube through the oval ring in the center console, you can only insert it from underneath, not from the top.

That's why the later downtubes are slightly more difficult to remove. Basically, you have to loosen the center console by removing the screws in the cupholders and below the mirror-adjusting panel. Then, after removing the screws in the downtube and freeing the top of the downtube from the dash, you have to raise up the center console and drop the downtubes *down* through the oval-shaped openings in the console, instead of being able to lift them *up* out of the oval openings like you could with the earlier years.

 

Sorry for the lack of response on this. I'm pretty interested in those from scatpack, but I'm about to leave on a two month trip to Europe for the MINI2 Charity Ball, Plant Oxford Tour, and MINI United. Quite the "MINI adventure", eh? I'm estatic but this also means that I can't deal with ordering or shipping at the moment since I have so many last minute things to plan and I usually have stuff shipped to the border and then I pick it up from there.

I'll bump this thread with an update when I'm back and see if you, scatpack, still have yours available or if anyone else is selling theirs!!
