Previous owner removed the tire change kit from my MCS in order to use the boot box accessory. I pieced together a replacement kit but I'm not sold on the 1 1/2 ton scissors jack that I bought. The jack is a cheapie from PEP Boys. It's very compact but it doesn't operate very smoothly. I'm concerned that my wife would have trouble operating it in a must use emergency situation.

The jack from the MINI dealer is $70. Anyone have good success with other makes of jacks that I might find at a salvage yard at a good price?

This isn't an answer to what you asked - but have you priced the jack at Morristown Mini? Might be able to save you a few bucks if you end up going that route...

 

Morristown MINI seems to have some of the best deals out there for purchases direct from a MINI dealer.
