WTB: OEM Stereo with TEXT
WTB: OEM Stereo with TEXT
I am looking for a late 2005 build stereo, I have a Jan build, but from what I understand that wont do text... So if you have a late 2005 build OEM stereo that does text, let me know.
Thanks
Thanks
Hey There
You might want to verify that text isn't supported on your radio:
1. Turn your radio off then back on.
2. Press the "M" button at the bottom left of the radio and hold for about 10 seconds until your serial number comes up on the display. In my case it displayed "SN A0927160"
3. Press the far bottom right button on the radio once to scroll to the next item which, in my case, displayed "SV 38-04 47" This is your software version.
If the middle number is 04 (as above) your radio won't support text.
I believe the changeover happened in Feb. 05. Any HU from a Feb. 05 or later should support text.
I should add that the text support to which I am referring is text from a device like an ICE-link Plus. Over-the-radio text should work on your radio, and text of an MP3 CD doesn't work on any OEM HU. Also, if you have a Nav. system, that may also present a problem for text from a device like an ICE-link Plus.

I will do that... I am pretty sure I dont though as my car was a Jan 05 build, and I have heard that the changeover actually took place in April of 05... I want it for the ICE kit so that my ipod info shows up...
As stated in post #2. Radio Text will work with your stereo, but Ipod text does not work. You have to have a radio from April of 05 or newer for the Ipod text to be displayed with the ICE Ipod unit...
I'm pretty sure that the sticker on the 05 radio I currently have in my '03 S says it was manufactured in February 05 (it DOES work with iPod text). I don't know, however, the build date of the car from which it came.
Also, on MINI2.com there was a Feb '05 build MINI owner who reported that iPod text worked for him/her with the 2.b1 firmware. So, I'm pretty sure you can go as far back as February 05 builds for a radio that will display ID3 tags.
