FRS Radios on the Dragon - For manual setup units only

I was reading the Dragon guide and spotted this list:

4 sub 21 ------- Geocachers (Meet & Greet only)
5 Sub 21 ------ MINICCI

6 Sub 21 ------ Michigan MINI
6 Sub 9--------- QoC
7 Sub 11 ------ Metroplex MINI
7 Sub 21 ------ MOTD Channel - always use while driving!

8 Sub 0 ------- Gulf South Motoring
10 Sub 4 ------ SunShine MINIs

14 Sub 7 ------ Chicago MINI Club
15 Sub 15 ----- CinciMINIs
16 Sub 10 ----- Hampton Roads Club MINI
17 Sub 1 ------ Upstateminis (South Carolina)
17 Sub 21 ----- Mid-South MINIacs
18 Sub 21----- Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts
20 Sub 20 ----- Tar Heel MINIs
21 sub 7 ------- Mini NEO and MKO
21 Sub 21 ----- PittStop MINI - (Dragon Bingo and Draggin‘ Dragons)
22 Sub 22 ----- DC Metro MINIs

I've got a dash-mount iCom radio and had to do some research to get the sub-channels set up, but they are working! Most handhelds don't need this kind of manual set-up, but I thought I'd share the frequencies to make it easier for anyone doing the same custom work:

Thank you so much for this! I'm hoping to get an Icom unit one day and this will be immensely helpful.

It has a magnetic mount external antenna and can broadcast with a lot more watts than a hand-held unit. I got it for when I lead group drives... now I can hear everyone (external antenna is WONDERFUL) and even the car in the tail end of a trail of 30 MINIs can hear me. :D

You can see here the application I use to program the radio. On channels 15 and 16 of my unit, I reprogrammed 16 to use channel 7-sub11 for my Metroplex MINI crew and 15 to use channel 7-sub21 for dragon driving.

thanks for the redirect... and for making my brain implode.

I think I'll just look to set-up a handheld CB with an external antenna for road trips, and have the FRS handheld for the local rallies.

I've gotta say that the iCom UHF radio I have in the dash is hella powerful... great for leading big drives. If you just like to follow and need to listen in, the standard GMRS handhelds are ok (Walmart blister pack - 2 for $50). If you want to go bigger, they make handheld units (like what you see police carrying) that will do the job, but getting the external antenna is the key to good reception.

If you want to chat w/ friends in another car on a road trip, those blister pack radios are great... just pick a privacy channel and go!

I usually lead a few drives at each MOTD I can get to and run a big group of cars (40+ last year) in Dec/Jan here in Dallas.
