My husband and I are from the Albany area and coming to the Dragon. We havent quite figured out our travel plans yet (or if we will be attending the Welcome Dinner). Is anyone taking two days to make the trip (or have you before)? What is a good stopping point i.e., something interesting to do on the way down?
We are definitely interested in exchanging cell #s with anyone traveling down around the same time as us (even if we dont hook up for the drive). Figure it might come in handy to have contact info of others (not sure why or how it could be helpful...just seems like a good idea to me).
We will be staying at the Microtel.

koolmini--that's the kind of shot I want for my scrapbook! Thanks for sharing.
Wolfeee--you are a couple of hours south of us. Where about do you stop? Do you plan it with reservations or just stop wherever? About how much driving will that leave for Wednesday? It is so exciting planning the first trip down to the Dragon and help from experienced slayers is much appreciated!

Jimmyd - you would be wise to monitor the NCDOT home page for updates on the I-40 (Rock Slide) closure.

Both lanes are closed at the NC/TN line. They are suggesting they may have both lanes open in late March.

well this is shaping up to be quite the event, if you will. We have 7 so far . Not counting our loved ones. It would be cool if we could go on a run together while we are there too. Maybe we all can do a run to the Builtmore estates. There is also the devils triangle too, that promises to be a blast. Any Suggestions? Here are the events I am signed up for;
April 28th Highlands rib run,welcome dinner, and wine tasting
April 29th Dragon bingo, way motor works tent party
April 30th Dragon parade, Thumper performance tech talks
May 1st Panoramic Photo, Geocaching, farewell dinner,
Midnight on the dragon
For Me the 29th Might be the best day to have our own run. But it is all up to you all. Let me know and I will organize it.
