I have a question...how much is it to register for AMVIV, and what does the fee cover?
I'm curious because I've been reading the AMVIV forum threads, and there are no..complaints, there...or on any if the other national MINI events.
AMVIV has also increased it's vendor numbers...so, I guess I'm just curious as to the differences between the 2 events, besides the obvious (geography, Vegas, etc.).
Enlighten me...

There seems to be three differnt types for MOTD.
1.Those who pay it willingly
2.Those not happy with what what you get for the $45/$10
3.People who refuse to give NAM money
AMVIV and other national events started as "Events", MOTD was started as a Grassroots event, and grew into an "Event".
AMVIV gets more vendors, because there are more vendors on the West Coast, and they do that before committing to MOTD. If only by virtue of location and earlier in the year.

Cost was $25 for basic registration, this included a very nice booklet with a schedule of events and maps of all the drives. Also, it included one hang tag, also with a schedule, and five raffle tickets. This price was per car, there was no fee per person.
For extras, the dinner was $37, included entertainment by Elvis!
Tshirts and hats were $15 each, or $25 for both if you pre registered. Grill badges were $8, and a Sunday morning buffet breakfast was $10. If you went to the track day, MINIUSA sponsored a free lunch. The Friday night mixer was free too, sponsored by SCMM and SCMC.So two people could have attended AMVIV for $177 and scored everything.
Actually, AMVIV started as a grass roots thing. Much like the Dragon, early club participation was key, too: SCMM, Sin City MINIs, Norcalminis & at least one Arizona club (can't remember the name, sorry) were all early supporters/promoters/participants in the event. IIRC AMVIV I was created & organized by Pheonix & Vegas based clubs, spearheaded by Dominic, Agro & a couple of other people. AMVIV happened to luck into a bunch of people (Thank you SCMC) willing put in the time and effort to create the first event, and who have been been willing to put it on these last few years. MITM, same thing, different people. MINIS on Top. same thing, different people. Mickey & MINI, same thing, different people. And now Norm & REME are trying pull off an event in San Francisco, and I wish them the best of luck.
All of these events started out as grass roots things--because some MINI fanatic, possibly slightly crazier than the rest of us asked the question "What if I could get a whole bunch of MINIs together for a weekend at ..... <--insert event name here ...and then worked their (*^*ing asses off to get the event off the ground.
A toast, a round of applause & a hearty thank you to the club-based organizers of all the "Events".

$10 Passenger Seat Registration
$60 2 Farewell Dinner Tickets
$20 2 Pasta or Chili Dinners (Same value as AMVIV Breakfast)
$20 Extra MOTD Shirt (one included in the Driver's Seat)
$155 (No hats)
So the cost is comparable for the same amount of "Activities" , but it appears that MOTD has many more organized events and dinners as part of the event as a whole.

No, those are on the Tennessee side! What you do get in NC are mosquitos....lots and lots of mosquitos. And the occasional bear.

When it is broken down and you see exactly what you get, it's not too terrible.

We'll be back at the Dragon sooner or later, if for no other reason than to have spagetti with you.
It's just this year, we took Mae West's advice and in the choice between two evils, we chose the one we hadn't tried before.
The biggest thing we miss about the move is the friends we have made in all the trips to the Dragon.
IMHO, the MOTD and AMVIV are not even competing for the same crowd. We had a few people show from the East, and even a few who drove. The distances are just to great for the casual attendee.
Another thing that might factor into the lack of complaints about AMVIV cost, is that attendees to AMVIV expect there to be costs associated with a weekend in Vegas. There were a number of attendees who did not register.
We awarded prizes on each of the long runs, only registered cars were eligible for the prizes. To drive the poker run, badges were required at each stop.
I am sure when AGRO and Patrice recover from the event, they will have more to add.
I am sure that by the time you add Booze costs for each attendee, it would be a total match.
