Wow! I dont mean to sound naive, but I didn't realize that sleeping quarters were so hard to come by. This will be my first MOTD, what do most people do??

Edit: I read more threads, think I got it...

Actually, DON'T panic. There's lots of time yet, especially when some who already made reservations need to cancel for whatever reason. there will be a rooming thread later...just keep checking. Other people have cabins, and may let you in, if just to have a piece of floor to sleep on. It will all work out...it's just that people who did not reserve or who are just now getting the bug to get a room, are getting antsy....

Its the age old problem of supply and demand. Demand is as high as its ever been to attend this event. But lodging within the Village is limited. There are plenty of options all around the area though as long as you don't mind a little drive to the hub of activity. And the drives are nice...it isn't as if you're cruising along interstate.

This past year there were open cabins and motel rooms up until a month before the event. And don't even bother trying to contradict me folks...I was calling for someone at that time and found multiple locations.

Exactly. The point is, since this is sooo early, DON'T panic...you'll get situated.

So how cold does it get at night up there at that time of year and would the cops be totally opposed to having someone sleep in their car?

Fontana DOES have a camping area, and there are other campgrounds down Hwy. 28 I'm pretty sure that, if you pulled off the road to sleep during that weekend and an NC or TN cop awakened you, for sure you'd be sleeping in a different location the next night.

It gets a tad chilly in early May.

I won't be by MOTD next year. With the extension my new ETS date becomes 24 April, isn't that convienient? It's fitting that I hit the dragon going back home too, I drove it down to Gordon via the dragon and Brandy crossed her break-in mileage down there, she matured on the Dragon if you will.

And besides, you're one to talk about me and the cold, I seem to remember the field in Germany being a little chilly. :D

What's up with this thread being half-way down the page? I just got off the phone with Fontana. I'm #15 on the waiting list. Hopefully something (anything!) opens up in the next, oh, 4 months or so. If you've got a spare room for two (or better yet, a cabin) lemme know and I'll GLADLY take that off your hands.
