F66 Cruise Control

Was driving a distance in my F66 a few days back and noticed an interesting thing. The cruise control in my Cooper has 2 settings/options.

One is cruise control with distance control, an absolutely wonderful piece of technology.

The other is cruise control with distance and lane assist. Not only does the keep a specified distance between you and the car ahead, but also keeps the car in the lane.

I didn't realize I had this in the lane assist mode and wondered why the steering was twitchy... that is the reason why.

I choose the standard distance control option and the steering settled down nicely.

Anyone else notice this with their cars?

Personally, I do not like and very seldom use cruise control, but it does sound like Mini has done a very good job of designing it.

I only use it on long drives, not around town.

No big deal... I will use distance only... problem resolved!

Most of the miles on my car are done using the closest distance control setting as well as active lane centering and it’s been absolutely wonderful!

Interesting... so you don't notice any slight 'twitchiness' in the steering when using active lane centering?
I sure do. If I go to distance CC only, this totally disappears.

Big scheme of things... no big deal.
I won't trade the car in because of this....

By "twitchiness" do you mean that the car feels unsure of how to center itself in the lane smoothly? its been pretty smooth for me as long as the lanes are reasonably clearly marked.

Hard to explain.... it is very slight non-stop twitching as I drive down the road. Not big corrections, just non-stop small ones, like the system is trying to make adjustments several times per second.
Very annoying and noticeable.
This happens the few times I've driven the car at highway speeds in Lane Assist cruise control.

Like I said, no big deal... I just use the distance control CC... It works perfectly!
