ICE OS glitches?
OS glitches?
I’ve had my ‘25 JCW for 3 delightful and un-glitchy months. When the free trial of MINI Connected was coming to an end I decided to renew it and everything has mildly sucked, ever since.
Trips don’t sync (the car doesn’t think I’ve driven it since last month; I am logged in and using my key, and it shows me logged in on the screen). I am the only person who’s driven it in that timeframe.
Using the click wheel on the steering wheel to choose from my SiriusXM fave stations, everything looks like it works but I cannot actually change the channel. Sometimes, even going through the screen I cannot change the channel. But I can use the click wheel to successfully select tracks if I’m playing something via CarPlay.
Related - SiriusXM will occasionally stop playing the channel I’m listening to, but will show it perpetually selected, even if I am able to select another channel. If I try to select the channel it thinks is selected, it just mutes the stereo.
Nav has gotten stuck - like it doesn’t follow my location. When I ask spike to end navigation, it doesn’t end navigation, it just un-sticks it, which is fine, but also weird.
I have occasionally given Spike a voice command, which appears correctly in the text, but spike repeats something entirely different back to me and then does nothing. Admittedly, this is my favorite thing because it’s so unhinged it makes me think my car is sentient and also a pain in the *** and I did name her Striga so I had that coming.
I’ve logged out then logged back in, and done the OS reboot, but nothing has changed. I updated the in-car apps after renewing MINI connected, as suggested by the MINI phone app, tho that took four tries before anything would actually update. Nothing has improved. I’ve got a service appointment set up for tomorrow, which is annoying but whatever. Just wondering if anyone else has had gremlins.

That's interesting as I've had mine since June 1. After about a month, the voice commands weren't responding correctly, but then it went away and has been behaving. I do notice that switching to SiriusXM via the steering wheel didn't seem to work unless I do it twice, but it's intermittent, and I can't tell if I'm just impatient. lol

I just spoke with the service advisor and they’ve rescheduled me for a Friday before a Saturday that the service department is open, and scheduled me for a loaner, because he said running down glitches in the infotainment system has not been a quick fix. So there was a possibility I’d not be able to pick her up until early next week and there were no loaners available.
Thus I will have no answers until next month, because their service department is only open one Saturday per month and I missed August.
It’s nice to see that some things haven’t changed in 22 years.
I renewed my Mini connected after the free trial and had only issues with my remote camera functions. Was unable to connect to the cameras via the app. I rebooted the OS and that fixed everything. I don't use the trips function as I have never set it up. I only use Apple music through Carplay and use the Apple maps as navigation. I have had zero issues except the camera issue that has since been resolved with the reboot. I wish you luck.
We've had some of these same issues on our F65. Today the climate control would not respond, could not turn it off, change fan speed, nothing. Also could not bring up the SiriusXM station that was playing. The screen would respond to other selections though, like the temp control slider. Not fully sold on this Gen4 yet.
in case it helps anyone…
My primary (consistent) issues with the click wheel/Sirius XM, as well as my trips not syncing, have both been resolved through two seemingly unrelated pathways.
I had my spouse drive the car, using his fob and profile, and he had no issues with the clickwheel/SiriusXM channel selection (I had had the issue just before he drove). When I next drove, using my fob and profile, full functionality had returned.
to correct the trip syncing, I went into the privacy settings in the car, turned off the data sync, then turned it back on. When I connected to the app afterwards all of my August trips were there.
I think, for some things, at least, I need to make myself think of her more like a cell phone than a car. What would I do if an app crashed on my phone, or became unresponsive. That’s fairly obvious, but I don’t love it.
I drive my R53 when I’m not in the mood to be technologically frustrated. 🙃

Using Bluetooth for music has been a nightmare since the July update
It switches from PLAY to STOP countless times on every trip, depending on the area. I fear it cannot be fixed through software and that the issue may be hardware-related.
Chatgpt already knows about it :
This is not an isolated problem: several BMW/MINI users report that the Bluetooth stack is very sensitive to electromagnetic noise (other cars, areas with many connections, etc.), and the latest firmware versions have further worsened stability
Since July update, a full nightmare
