WOW, question for someone

What incredible pictures. Wife says maybe she needs to get a Mini.

Does anyone know if you can bring small dogs to Fonana? If so we could easily make the trip next year.

Thanks for the eye candy. Wife said the first one looks fake it's so pretty.

Wow. Let's start the contest now for the best pun using 'Mini' and 'dam' for those last pictures. Or maybe not...

You should check with the Fontana directly (www.fontanavillage.com) but in the past dogs were permitted in the cabins only and not in the lodge rooms...

I would suggest calling them... They've been known to loose e-mails...

I am sitting here with Petey my 65LB pup. We are in a cabin at Fontana & they allow dogs. The fee is $100 (fee, not deposit so no refund ) Was well worth the money. Petey has ridden the dragon twice & he loves it. We are about to go do the midnight on the dragon run in a bit

The MINI bear thing did happen. That was a fellow Louisianian who was driving across the Cherohala Skyway. Bear came out over the guard rail and he couldn't avoid it.

The other guy who went off Hwy 28 is ok. It was not due to excessive speed from what I was told my his fellow travelers it was simply an accident after a long day of driving.

We also had a MINI who lost a wheel on Hwy 28 but he got it up and running and limped back to Fontana.

Time to go to bed so we can get on the road to head home.

Matt

Would this be on top of the room rate, per night or for the whole visit? Thanks for the answers. Maybe Fontana will write me back?

The MINI that rolled and wrecked was driven by a young man from Indiana, who was a Dragon Newbie. The incident did not happen late at night, but rather at about 8 PM on Thursday night.

He was motoring with two Dragon veterans who took off a bit before him from Deal's Gap, and in trying to play "catch-up," he apparently underestimated a twisty, hit the gravel, rolled, and hit a tree which was broken by the impact. He had a sore arm, was examined at a hospital, and is fine. The MINI is totalled.

A MINI motorist behind him, from what several Indiana members mentioned to me, didn't notice excessive speed, but rather a severe misreading of a sharp turn.

Thankfully, he was barely bruised and will be fine.

BTW, we have a new nickname for sndwave: "Turkey Slayer." We saw quite a few wild turkeys (not humans, actual birds) along the Dragon this time. On Wednesday, while running the Dragon, he hit a large turkey, double-tiring it. He hit it in the "best" possible way, otherwise, it would have damaged his MINI.

I met the guy and he is a super nice kid from Indianapolis. Some guys from Pittsburgh who drove behind him actually have some scary photos of the car. The driver was very lucky indeed, and his very positive attitude the day after seemed to reflect that he was "happy" with a new lease on life.
Stay away from those Pittsburgh guys though as they were witnesses to a few other incidents too. :-)

Sorry about no updates guys. I left Saturday afternoon after a MINI Scenic Drive around the Smokey Mountains and lost my Clutch Slave Master Cylinder.

HUGE THANX to George from WolfCars.com and the rest of the 1030a Scenic drive trip for helping me with my ailing MINI. I know there are going to be pictures popping up somewhere of us all pushing my car up hill trying to pull into a pull off.

So i limped it to South Carolina by not stopping and slipping the car into gears without the clutch since it won't engage. Currently trying to decide if i should call Roadside or try to limp it to my home dealership in Ft. Lauderdale 800 mi away. MINI, has a roadtrip assistance program(hotel, rental car, and i think car shipping), but i'm worried about local dealerships being a pain in the **** and not covering that part of the clutch under warranty.........

I have to be back in Miami Tuesday for work and can't call in sick so would MINI ship the car down when its fixed? I forgot if thats part of the program...

I'll try to post pics later.

The Greenville, SC dealership has treated us (family of cars) very well. Ok, with the exception of the windshield, but in all honesty it wasn't them that said no. I can't say and wouldn't want to, on how they'll handle the warranty and the continued driving issue.

I was told that the policy recently changed and they (MINIUSA) won't ship/deliver any cars after repair. Look for a thread from Yucca about his break (or was it brake) down on the Dragon last fall. MINIUSA treated him very well if I remember correctly.

Good Luck
