Lisa and I are going down on Wednesday this year ourselves. So we'll miss the caravan... but that means more time "alone" with the dragon before the masses arrive
I plan on leading a DC caravan (mostly DCMM members) out of Washington DC early Thursday morning... It looks like we may be able to meet up with the main group at some point. Keen.
I'll be watching this thread for more info, as well as updating my DCMM MOTD06 Thursday Morning Caravan thread.

Fastest route according to google for DC says 66w to 81s, to 181s to 40w which gives us about 40 more miles to Fontana...
If you're coming down 40, we could start going south earlier, maybe 77s, and meet you guys a good 100 miles earlier. Doesn't look like it would add much more time to our trip, only about 15 minutes or so. Nevermind, that would be for a virginia group... *scampers off to find pennsylvania route*

OK. I've thought about it. I want to "officially" request that a moderator add the subtitle "The Horde" to this thread title!

Thus, it should read: Multi-State MINI Caravan: "The Horde"
How about "Official Member of The Horde" stickers - or, better yet, grille badges? C'mon, let's do it up right, folks!

OK, Horde it is, I gess I could go with that.
I will run with the Horde pack for a while but I am staying in Robinsville and would like to check in and dump the luggage before going to the welcome dinner so I may leave the pack and jet on ahead.

A horde sounds like a bunch of pick ups and SUVs with pitchforks and axes hanging out all over, raping and pillaging the asphalt. A "pack" would be more aggressive and nimble sounding, like a pack of wolves, yes?
I wonder what the truckers call a group of MINIs?

Where's your sense of daring and excitement?

All in all, I think your observation is quite accurate - the ironic parodox is part of the charm of the concept of calling ourselves a horde.
As for mental images of a horde, I can't help but think of the Capital One No Hassle credit card commercials.

All of that aside, I've always said ("always" being since I got my first MINI in '02) that any group of MINIs travelling together should be referred to as a menagerie.
