FREE Brake Light Mods

I'll be doing brake light mods for anyone that wants it done to their 2002-2004 MINI just like I did last year. Just find me and TWISTER and ask. I'll be at the rec center a lot of the time.

You might want to set up a meeting place at a specific time to be able to hook up with people. My problem last year is that people could not find me, even though I put little tags on my car 'advertising' the mods. It was frustrating to me and some others that I promised to do lights for.

I still have my bag of supplies from last year.

I'll have my box of bits and pieces needed to do this too. I don't have the diodes though for those who have or want rear fogs activated, but I think Greatbear has those. . .

Explain this mod to me and why the 2005 isn't on the list of ones able to be done. Thanks

2002-2004 cars had brake lights that came with the upper red lamps disconnected, and the reverse light was mounted in the center of the bumper. The unused lamps can easily be activated to illuminate as additional brake lights with less than 50 cents worth of wire, diodes(if using them as rear fogs), and jumper clips.

This only works for 2002-2004 MINI's because the tail-light design was changed for 2005, with the reverse lights incorporated into the tail lights and the rear fog moved to the center of the bumper.

Not sure what you mean. Where are the rear fogs?

On 2002-2004 cars they are above the rear turn signals. On the 2005-present it's in the bumper.

In the center rear?

Or on 2002-2004's, the area of the tailight in my pic that is not illuminated.

This is why my first mod on my 06 was to replace the lights with 02-04 lights and add a reverse light in the bumper.

Greatbear's suggestion of a specific place and time (or set of times) is an excellent one. It was on my list last year, but I never tracked either one down when they could do it.

Great mod though. Wound up doing it myself last summer.

SB,
What is the advantage of the '04 tail lights over the '05/'06? Sounds like the '04 mod was to move the reverse lights to the tails lights so the bumper light could be used as a fod light like the '05/'06 comes from the factory. I must be missing something, can you explain.
Do our tail lights light up fully?

I wouldn't say it's an advantage. Just personal preference.

Here's a diagram showing the differences.

I'm not entirely sure, but isn't the top spot of the 05-06 brake light the turn signal now?

I definitely recommend this mod. Mike of Donna/Mike did mine at the 1st Dragon. I'm sure it's saved my butt a few times.
