Back from the Dragon 2005
Eyewitnesses said that the fellow driving the Miata had numerous places on his torso that were bleeding through and apparently two broken legs. His girlfriend was reported to have a large gash in her forehead. I consider those to be possibly serious injuries.

I was the mini passenger who responded to the accident.
Just want to clear a few things up.
A) He was drunk.
B) There was no girlfriend. It was him alone. He was passing a volvo at a high rate of speed when he lost control on the turn. The volvo passengers also responded to the scene.
C) He has a forhead laceration (required stitches), a left knee laceration (stitches again), and a severley sprained right ankle or a crushed ankle. Don't know which without an xray.
D) He was very lucky. He was speeding, intoxicated, not wearing a seatbelt and somehow was not ejected from his vehicle.
I would like to thank all the mini owners who lended assistance, those who got out of the way quickly, and those who donated their first aid kits. I would love to get your kit back to you, but there was blood all over it. It was thrown away.
I would also like to thank those who listened to the radios and listened to our directions coming from the police over the mini band.
I especially would like to thank Nekowoman for the use of her flares - I'm not positive where they went, I'll look into it.
I also would like to thank all those who made sure that the EMT's and the police were called. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!
I would also like to pass along that the police were very impressed with our organization, and very grateful that we listened to them.
Thank you everyone for helping out and doing your part - even if your part was to just make sure traffic flowed smoothly.
I have just one favor to ask for next year. Hopefully there isn't, but if there is an accident like this again and you want to take pictures, please wait until the victim is off scene and you get the okay from the scene commander. The officers on scene were very nice and fine with people taking pictures - once the victim is taken care of and they were waiting for the wrecker.
Thank you all for listening and helping out!!
And for anyone who's curious about the motorcyclist the day before who went down. He ended up with several broken ribs and a punctured lung. He spent the night in the hospital and apparently was a local. His bike didn't fare as well as he did. He cracked the frame and it was a total loss - with less than 1000 miles on the odometer.

Great time at the dragon! I already miss it. It was awesome making so many new friends. I enjoyed that part more than the actual driving part. Hope everyone made it home safely. I'm already counting down the days till next year (somewhat to my wife's dismay

Did Amanda ever get to drive the dragon? Every time I saw you guys, you were driving!

It was a guy, for awhile he was standing then was moved into a chair that appeared from somewhere.
I forgot to thank which ever two drivers donated blankets they had in their cars. It was very chilly that night and they were well used. Thank you Thank you guys!
I can't even explain how thankful I am that I was with this group of people when these accidents happend. You guys made my job so much easier. I didn't have to worry about people being stupid and someone else getting hurt.
I need a vacation from my vacation!

I might suggest that more folks carry flares with them. They cost only a few bucks at Wal-Mart and are very useful to help others avoid danger.
Folks often laugh at how much "junk" I carry around in my MINI. My dad was the type that thinks you should always be prepared - especially as I grew up in the midwest where getting stranded in the winter can kill.
I keep:
Flares
First Aid Kit
Flashlight & spare batteries
FRS & spare batteries
Maps galore
Pen & paper
Blanket
Water
Jumper Cables
Duct Tape
Bungee cords (helpful for dragging mufflers)
Air compressor
Gloves
Food (meal bars)
Matches
Leatherman multi tool
Warm socks
Hat
Hand warmers
Paper towels & wet wipes
Extra oil
Rope
Can anybody beat that list?? LOL (Don't laugh, name an item I don't carry that's useful & I'm sure I'll have to go get it to add to my booty bag.)
I'll bring more flares next year & again hope I won't need any. I'm going to refresh my first aid kit too -- you can never be too prepared.

Yep, I always have flares, as a matter of fact I put one out about halfway up the hill, before we moved the tree off the road. We didn't want anyone flying around the bend up top and running into the four MINIs in the oncoming lane as we moved over just in case.

Atleast one of them was from MBabishkin, cause I was in Patricia's cabin when he came in announcing that he had given away the warm blankets they normally keep in their car for the accident victim.
