You are going to want to be there Thursday night. I hear that the Welcome dinner isn't to be missed AND there is a Parade on the Dragon the MORNING of Friday -- after a brief (HA!) respite at the Fontana Dam....
Now, since they don't roll up the pavment and take the road away when a MINI isn't on it; I seriously doubt you'll miss your shot at the Dragon. But if you (and your Nutty cabin) wish to experience the WHOLE event, get there on Thursday late afternoonish.
