Front Skid Plate Protrusion

Out of curiosity, what is it that protrudes from the front skid plate, maybe a foot and a half behind the access panels for the oil filter/drain plug and directly under the front axle? It has a black, rectangular rubber splash guard on it. Almost looks like some sort of exhaust port. It's very noticeable in the below image from M7's product info sheet for their after market skid plate:

I'm fairly certain this is a feature on all trims, but specifically - this is on my Countryman S ALL4.

I'll go ahead and put my dunce cap on and publicly shame myself: In the dim lighting under a car in an already dim garage, it looks an awful lot like a jack point... Yes, I'm an idiot and should have checked one of the many excellent posts I found on this site while panic-googling when the car stopped going up with additional pumps of the jack. The only saving grace to this blunder is that I think I caught my mistake fairly early... there's definitely some, erm, "plastic deformation," (see below pic) but there's no fluids, no CEL, no strange noises, and no immediately obvious emissions odors/leaks.. But I still want to know exactly how expensive a mistake this was (or will be, if I attempt to drive something that shouldn't be driven...).

Lesson learned the hard way... Thanks very much in advance.

Yep, things hit that piece on the f56 also. Its more common then you think. Thanks for showing this on the F60.

It's the air discharge duct for the turbo, all B48 engines have this underneath. Mine kind of hangs a little lower thru the belly pan.

Yep, seems like these are common for damage, the thing is this takes heat away from the turbo. You dont want to cut that off or restrict it.

I agree...that open rubber part protruding out into the under-car air-stream will help pull air through the structure above, which helps cooling. Physics is cool like that B-)
