Hi All- I would like to perform the following mods on my Countryman, but have a couple questions:

1) I do not know how to shop for a tuning kit. I have a Base model ALL4 and a manual transmission; 1.5L 3 cyl, 136HP. I just want an ECU tuning kit that will push up my HP. What are the best ECU tuning kits for mini and do I buy a kit that says "S/JCW" or can I buy any kit that works for my model too? (NO PIGGYBACKS PLEASE)

2) plan to do a cold air intake and update exhaust - is this necessary right now and be put in with the computer?

What do you have against piggyback units?

 

Tuning prospects for the B36 3-cylinder are just not as great overall, unfortunately. My best advice is to hit up @MarioKart here and talk to him. He did an RPM tune for my 3-cylinder F57 and I’m super happy with it a couple years in. Other than that, there are some piggyback modules out there, but I’ve not heard great things in terms of results. Also, be mindful that a lot of the 3-cylinder tuning stuff is for the B38, which I think was only available in the U.S. in very early F56’s and quickly replaced with the B36 (the latter of which I believe is the SULEV version of the 3-cylinder). Bit full disclosure, I’m not sure which version the Countryman had/has.
