Will the fob still start the car when slotted into the dash? If the fob will start the car when inserted into the dash, then the internal battery just needs to be used so it can charge.
If the car no longer recognizes the fob when inserted in to he dash, then the fob has an internal fault and needs to be replaced.
You can remove the metal ring and forcibly cut open the fob to replace the battery. If you care careful, you can glue it back together and reinstall the metal ring to make it look like new.
If you do some google searching, there are some who have claimed to recharge the fob using a toothbrush charger or phone charger.

I checked the parts department at the dealer last week and was quoted just under $300 for the fob and key. Fob alone was like $230 or something like that. Didn’t ask how much it cost to program but that’s where they will make their profit.
Maybe this suggestion is way to simple to work.
I suppose that this would be dependent upon the fob shell being available for your specific model but, couldn’t you buy a replacement fob case from EBay, carefully cut the existing fob open and swap the internals from it into the new replacement that would now function with removable CR2032 batteries?
Ive swapped out an old OEM fob shell with replaceable battery for a similar shell, never with one that had a fixed battery but for $30 you have really nothing to lose and possibly $250+ to save.
please note that this is pure speculation on my end for a more cost effective possible solution.
but
If you attempt and it works I’m sure a lot of members would like to hear the outcome.
