hey all, my car started making this noise upon startup about 2 weeks ago. The rattling is worse with acceleration and constant when driving, though I hear it most in lower rpm’s. Does anyone have any idea what this may be? I recently had alternator and timing chain replaced about 3 months ago.

 

While I'm no pro tech the noise doesn't sound normal. All engines and especially overhead cam engines are tick-y but that noise is beyond just normal tick-y in my opinion.

Certainly the timing chain work comes under some suspicion. What all was replaced? Just chain? Or chain, sprockets, guides, tensioners?

But the alternator replacement also is due its share of suspicion as well. Both fall under the last thing touched first thing suspected rule...

But the noise might have nothing to do with either the timing chain or alternator work.

My advice would be to have the car checked/listened to by a pro MINI tech.
