I've read many threads on this subject. But nothing definitive and am wondering if there is one answer.
I have a 2012 Countryman (non S, non turbo) with the 1.6 liter, Inline 4 cylinder engine.
Most gas stations in my area (Southwest Ohio) offer 93, 89 & 87 octane.
I have filled up with all three & occasionally blend the 89 & 93. I notice no discernible difference in performance no matter what I use. Also I get zero pinging.
So am I simply burning my money when I use 93 or 89 octane? My car says yes but some "experts" say no.
Typical prices today 7/29/22:
87 octane $4.15
89 octane $4.45
93 octane $4.75

According to the owners manual, page 135:
https://www.miniusa.com/content/dam/...2_ue__2012.pdf
"Minimum Quality: The manufacturer of your MINI recommends AKI 89. Do not use any gasoline below the specified minimum fuel grade. Otherwise, the engine could be damaged."
Based on those notes, I would use mid-grade octane rating or higher. Let the local Corollas and Accords use the regular stuff.

I agree. Mid-grade is what is required for the non-turbo engine. The 'experts' who say the MINI engine will run fine on 87 are FOS.
