Ha! Let's hope I don't get impatient and drill through my hand and car! Can I ask how easy / difficult it was to route the camera wire through the newly drilled hole in the tail light area to the bumper? I have fish tape and fiberglass rods I can use to snake it through. What did you end up using?
I got the backup camera installed and the LED light is definitely dimmer than the OEM bulb on the left side. I may rewire the original OEM bulb back in as the backup camera frame does have the bulb opening. I'll think about that later...
As for the removal of the rear taillight HUGE lesson learned!! After struggling to remove bracket #2 (top right looking from the inside) I found this great Youtube video showing that only brackets #1 and #3 need to be removed:
. Brackets #2 and #4 can actually stay on and clip back in later. This was after almost an hour struggling with that last bracket doing all sorts of yoga poses in the back of the Mini and scratching up my arms and knuckles trying different angles to unscrew the bracket. After finally watching that video (and the ending of zcspec's video) the rest of the wiring wasn't too bad. My gf now has a working backup camera with indicator lines!
Ha! you and I both had issues with the taillight. I fiddled around with it for at least 30 mins trying to figure out how to re-install it. Sounds like you got everything all square away! Bonus points for you!
Thanks again zcspec for the great instructional (and motivational) video to help with my radio installation. You definitely weren't kidding about how challenging it was to access and remove all of the bolts! Whoever designed this dashboard should be fired! Here are some pics of the final installation and screenshots. I'm debating whether or not to create a new thread with more pics of the installation process.
