Are there any (proper) aftermarket cross bars for the CM? Or should I just get them at the dealer?
I've seen some online, but am worried they are flimsy (or overpriced)

 

overpriced?! you're considering ones from the dealer and you're talking about aftermarket ones being overpriced? lol

THULE and Yakima are great after market companies. Pricey but worth it.
We actually went with these for our 2016 Cherokee and they work great for 2 years so far.

 

If you want MINI ones then i would look on sites like eBay, Craigslist, Kijiji or the For Sale section here on this forum and buy them used. Since you are in Ontario, I've seen them on Kijiji occasionally.

 

I have the Thule Aero-blade edge cross bars on my 2016 Countryman ALL4S. They are great. Low profile, aero look and they integrate with the look and DNA of the car really well. The Mini factory crossbars are great but a bit chunkier for my liking. I can send you some photos if you want. PM me.
