Can anyone tell me why there is a hatch release button on the fob and in the car that seem to do really nothing. Also why is there two different lock unlock buttons in the car?

 

Because they let computer geeks who aren't even old enough to drive design the things.

The Countryman originally had one lock toggle in the center console, but non-MINI people complained that they couldn't get out of the car, so they added lock buttons to the doors, too.

Ok, I get that it unlocks it but the unlock button does that too. If it poped open that would. Be helpful but it doesn't it opens but just enough to no longer be hinged you still have to use the handle to open it just like you would if that button didn't exist.

 

It just pops the latch, it doesn't actually force the hatch open.

 

Its purpose is to unlock the tailgate without unlocking the rest of the car. In this mode, it will also auto lock when you close the tailgate.

I know this because about every few days my hatch is open when I go to drive off in the morning. drives me nuts.

I coded my CM. The unlock button on the remote only opens the doors and the trunk button only does the trunk.
Inside the round door button opens only doors. The center flip toggle button opens everything.
