Cat-less Downpipe and Exhaust

I'm considering performance modifications to my Countryman "Black Knight" , and need some advice!

Firstly, will a Cat-Less downpipe provide any additional HP without upgrading the exhaust? I've read that a downpipe will certainly revise "sound"; however, I couldn't care less about making a bunch of noise, without improving performance. OR should I just go with New (Magnaflow or Borla) exhaust, and leave the downpipe/Cat in place?

Secondly, will a Performance Chip ECU increase performance? I have read on a few forums they're complete BS.

Without a tune or with , at most you will gain some response and save your turbo. Maybe a few hp. Better the engine can breathe, the better. Cats are nothing but a restriction point and work against the turbo, from a performance standpoint.

I'm personally running a 2.5" downpipe into a 3" system, 100% cat less and straight through mufflers. Good response, better low end to mid range power and pulls a lot better up top. I also am running my own true cold air intake setup.

I just had the jcw exhaust put on at the dealer. Definite increase in power. Realllllly nice tone but not overly loud. It deletes the resonator but both cats still in place. I think I will swap the down pipes next.

Yes, the less restrictive the more HP output you will get. If you're wanting the most out of doing an exhaust, go catless. Doing just a catback does not provide a performance upgrade, but rather just improves the sound of the vehicle. Some exhaust options here.
