R60 Mr Kustom puddle light issue
Mr Kustom puddle light issue
The wife ordered a set of Mr. Kustom puddle lights with the USMC logo. I had already installed the "Mini" puddle lights into the factory light housing and she wants them moved to the rear doors.
The Mr. Kustom lights are NOT for the factory housing (plug-n-play).
The Mr. Kustom puddle lights require drilling a hole in the bottom of the door panel and splicing into the factory wiring. Not a big deal except her R60 has really deep door panel pockets (2013 R60 S AWD). The new puddle lights are approximately 2" long. The clearance between the bottom of the pocket and the bottom of the panel is only about 1".
Mr. Kustom recommends just putting them in the bottom of the door itself which requires drilling into the metal and doing a good silicone seal. Again, not the end of the world. My only problem is I can't figure out how to remove the damn door panel. The one you-tube video I found is for an older R60 with a different door panel.
I was able to pop the bottom plug/clips and about 1/3 of the way up either side of the door panel. Feels like something more solid beyond that. Yes, I pulled the armrest screw and the two bolts behind that. Any more secrets? I can't find any way to pull the door release handle. Most cars have a screw hidden. I'll take any tips!!!
If you need a pic of my door, let me know and I'll attach when I get home.
Thanks,
Jim in AK

I'll take detailed pix of both housings tonight. I might be able to switch out the USMC logo with the Mini logo and use the factory housing. Thanks.
