R60 Fair price for 2012
pimpinon,
sounds like you've done well in negotiating your CM. You mentioned SF Bay area, I used to live on Pierce St, corner of Oak/Fell St many moons ago. I have relatives there in the bay area, where you at in the bay area?
anyway, congrats on your new ride. advance happy motoring...

You check the nearby dealers, go there on the day they're having the event and sign in, you get a certificate by email in a couple of days getting you $750 off your negotiated price when you pay for the car.
If you have to travel a bit to go where the event is happening, it's worth it.
I live in New Jersey, and plan to order a fairly well loaded All 4 this week. With the combination of options I want there's no question it will have to be ordered from the factory, but I'm fine with waiting for the car. So far I've visited 2 dealers. Without any haggling at all, one quoted $750 off MSRP with a $390 doc fee (which is pure dealer profit, over and above what the dealer actually pays the state to register and title the car), and the other quoted $1800 off MSRP with a $249 doc fee, and strongly inferred he could do better. I'm very familiar with both dealers and both have very good reputations (and I have personal experience with both) so I do beleive the lower quote is "real", not just trying to take me out of the market by having me order a car that will never arrive. Even at $1800 off MSRP, with the doc fee the dealer's margin would be about $2000...seems more than fair, and I expect to do better.

cool. quite a ways from SF. Anyway, this is the painful part, the waiting game. First thing first, post a picture or two when it gets here...

Outer Richmond is in SF, out by the beach. Ten weeks is the estimated wait.
So I'm wondering. When I was negotiating with my MA over email, before the car started production, but had been ordered. He shared with me what he said was the invoice. It was called the "Vehicle Inquiry, wholesale/MSRP" and told me it was their invoice price. But, it was significantly higher than the Edmunds invoice price. Has anyone else had a dealer do this to them, can I trust that the wholesale/MSRP is truly their invoice price or should I call foul?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I can think of only three things that would account for the difference:
1) Are you sure the Edmunds dealer cost number you were looking at included freight?
2) Were you comparing cars equipped with the exact same options?
2) Is there perhaps a regional advertising fee in your area that gets added to the invoice? I don't know if Mini does this anywhere, but I do know that some other manufacturers do...typically there will be a regional dealers association charge on the invoice for which the funds are used for regional advertising.
Why not ask your MA for an explanation? In fact ask him to show you the invoice. The only reason he would refuse would be if he or she is trying to hide something, as all dealers know that dealer invoice numbers are almost always easy for a potential customer to obtain.

I too was given my purchase price based on the "Vehicle Inquiry, wholesale/MSRP" report, and as negotiated was lower than the prearranged pricing from my bank (USAA) and COSTCO; can't recall if I compared with Edmunds. I am hopeful that I will be able to take advantage of the Test Drive Take Down incentive, we'll see...
