a straight arm that is off-set might work well. It could be straight but offset in 2 angles.
Angled up & then also to the right to sit just above the p/s bolster enough to clean your fingers for grabbing. It may intrude a bit on the p/side, especially a wider passenger.

I still search every once in a while to see if there is a mod out for sale... :(

I remember when I first took delivery in Dec '11 and MINI sent an email asking if I had any questions for the designers/engineers. My only comment was the ebrake blocking the center rail! No response.

Yea, I sent the same thing. No response. I'm not sure why they even asked. After all they did move the window/doorlock to the doorpanel due to complaints. Eventually I will try to take it apart to see if a straight handle could work. That brake handle does cover a area of the rail that could be very usefull to have
