Comfortable on long drives? Sport seats, suspension, narrow size ok?

My husband and I are trying to decide whether a countryman S AWD will fit all our needs including 5-8 hour road trips - including trips in the snow too. It would be just 2 people - no kids or pets. What is your experience on long trips - were the sport seats comfortable for both the driver and front passenger? Was the narrow width of the car confining? Was the suspension comfortable? I realize the car is great for zooming around town, but I am wondering if I want more of a cruise mobile for road trips.

I am especially concerned about the sport seats. I tried out The sport seats seem small and the bulky sides prevent someone from stretching out or even finding a comfortable place to put their arms. I sat in a friend's cooper w/ sport seats; they look similar to the sport seats on the countryman S AWD. He said that he could not take a nap in the sport seats on road trips because there was no where to put his arms. Once he said this I noticed that the bulky sides of the seat that are meant to hold you in place did not fit my body well.

thanks for sharing any of your experiences.
