I think the post above by lhigham2317 explains it all. She is an MA and knows her stuff. It is not free on any MINI model.

In regards to the Bluetooth. The microphone for it is still on the passenger side by default(parts must be from the UK models). If you look on the second gen mods it shows how to move it. It makes a BIG difference in phone calls and voice commands.

Copy and paste includes formatting. Highlight the text and press the remove formatting button (it's the icon to the left of the font color icon).

Sure looks like you were not charged for the armrest. I sure was.

Some have and some have not. I think it depends and what all they add to the order and how they package it. The struggled with the Commbox Controller and had to talk to someone at the factory who told them how to put the order together. They are couple of things list as no charge that I have no idea what they are.

CommBox Controller- I believe it control the Iphone and Coonect
Variable light decoding- ?
Adaptive Light Control-?

Midnight I haven't used a iPod but my iPhone plays the audio fine. I played a movie just to see if it worked. And it did flawlessly audio and picture. However when I put the car in drive of course the picture went away and the audio continued... I used the y cable that was supplied with the car.

His order is also for a JCW hardtop so his buying experience and option pricing is irrelevant.

The Combox controls your BT, phone, and navi functions. I'm not sure what variable light control is, but adaptive light control is what turns your headlights 15 degrees when you turn the steady wheel. Don't bother trying it in your garage, it only works above a certain speed threshold.

Variable Light Decoding defined from another forum:

"Starting with MY 2008 BMW 5-series Xenon equipped cars (maybe all of them, I don't know) came with a new headlamp design that supports not just turning with steering input but beam pattern reshaping with speed. In other words the headlamp supports changing the bulb's position with respect to the focal point and projector lens within the headlamp assembly. This has the effect of altering the beam shape as it illuminates the road ahead. Slower speeds yield a broader, shorter distance pattern and higher speeds yield a narrower, longer distance pattern.

Unfortunately this variable beam business is not DOT approved, so not for us in the U.S.A. and hence BMW applies the decoding feature."

Thanks! I'm going to try my iPad today and see if I get the same result. Could simply be that my iPod version is not supported for both video and audio. You would think that the audio would work (since it does work just fine for music play through Connected) and that the video out is the more complicated thing to do.

Have you experimented much with voice commands? The manual is a bit vague on how to use voice for dialing names. There is a "dial name" command but haven't tested yet to see how that works. There is also a "save name" command which apparently let's you record voice tags and assign a phone number for subsequent dialing by voice. I need some seat time to figure these things out.

Does anyone know how to (or if it's possible to) manage text messages and voice mails through MINI Connected?

Probably one is the Audio/Video, and the other one just audio

I've tried, first say telephone-phone book-choose name.
Some times it's still loading the phone book and doesn't work right away.
The unit is going to take me some time, but I like the fact that just about every thing can be controlled by voice commands.
I have to try the voice tags next, O the send to mini works great I'm up in the mountains and couldn't find a address but google did so I sent it to the car. Worked flawlessly.

The "Office" component will let you display text messages from supported phones. My Storm2 does not support the feature so I can't comment on how well it works.

Played with my iPod some more trying to get sound along with the video. I checked the volume on the device and on the Aux setting. No go.

I tried playing the video on the iPod while plugging it in to the car and audio did play briefly but as soon as Connected recognized the device the audio stopped. Very weird.

I briefly tried some of the voice command to dial by name using voice and I had no success. The command "save voice" to create a tag did nothing. Will bring manual to car and try again.

The time-shifting on the sat radio is way cool. Haven't tried the Favorites feature yet and not sure how useful it is.

AFAIK it only works with select BlackBerry phones. I'm not sure why the Storm and Storm 2 don't work but things like th Curve and whatnot work fine on the 3er version of Office.

The only Office component that works on my Storm2 is Contacts. No Calendar, Tasks, Text Messages or Notes

armrest with MINI Connected

I checked monroney stickers on several cars in inventory and all show $250.00 separate charge for the armrest in combination with MINI Connected and MINI Connected with Navigation.

When you build a car and you select the option MINI Connected or MINI Connected with Navigation a pop up screen explains that the armrest is required at a cost of $250.00.

I checked both 2011 hardtops and the new Countryman and they are both the same.

Maybe it is the way they but my build together. Orginally I was told the same thing but when the build sheet came back it is exactly what I posted above.
Maybe it is a JCW deal. I heard a few more guys with JCW's that had theres included also. You would thing it would all be the same. Happy to have saved the money.
