Dash rattle.

Took ownership of the CM I ordered a few months ago. Non S, manual. Love the car, BUT at 100 miles a loud rattle appeared. Seems to come from the passenger (right) side of dash. Normal street bumps produce it. I emptied the glove box to no avail. Perhaps the windshield is not properly fastened? I do NOT have the sunroof option. Anyone have any ideas on this prior to my having service fiddle with it? That often generates more rattles.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure about your dealer, but that was one of the first things that impressed me with my dealer when I picked up my 03'. They said specifically that if I heard any strange rattles I should bring it back in and let them take care of them for me.

I took them up on it a few times and they always acted on it and were able to cure the little rattles that came up during warranty. I'm hoping now 7 years later they will be the same way with my Countryman when it arrives.

Peterun, sorry to hear about your rattle. I noticed you have a "non-s" with manual. How do you find it? Many people have stated that the non-s is quite slow. I would appreciate your comments. thx

Peterun, take the car back to your dealership. Over the years a number of models have had some rattles... I haven't been keeping up with the complaint threads for a couple of years, but this issue should be resolved by your dealership. Take the service advisor, or better yet one of the mechanics, out for a ride so that they can hear the rattles.

As for the non S, I'd love to know more, too. I started this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-and-why.html in which I also asked about the non S experience. Motoringfile did a review on the non S automatic and they complained about the initial pickup.

S vs non S is a never ending issue on most MINI forums. When it comes to the Cooper or the Clubman, I am fine with the non S - and yes, I have driven the S in each a number of times thanks to friends. I've always chosen not to go the S route due to the extra costs, the lower mpg and honestly I like the look of the smooth front on the Cooper and the Clubman. So much also depends upon what sort of car one is coming from, as well.

I'm looking forward to test driving the non S soon.

Please report back regarding your dashboard rattle fix!
