R60 Will I still get "The Wave" in my Countryman?
I just ordered a CM yesterday, and I will happily wave like a nutjob at any and all MINIs I see on the road until they figure it out. I bet it will help that mine will be Cosmic Blue with a white roof and white racing stripes. That probably says "MINI" louder than a body color roof and no stripes.
Could it be partly regional? I'm in CT, and my friend with an R56 says he gets waves regularly. Maybe it's less common in the NYC metro area?
My Countryman S is at the dealer now and I will likely pick it up this week I get waves all the time in my MCS...but am expecting none here in NYC with the Countryman.
With the ever increasing number of cars/models in the SUV/Crossover group, plus the fact that the Countryman seems too big to be a Mini (and yes less sporty looking) most folks who aren't Mini fanatics don't notice it...

I've had the CM for 3 weeks, and it definitely gets noticed.
Some will say something positive, some will remark that
its too big. Most positive comments happen when its not directly
compared to a MCS. It seems that the CM will have to carve out
its own niche. I believe my Crystal Silver with white roof, white
mirrors and white 18's is the only CM in Brooklyn, NY.
I recently drove it to a BMW show in Winston-Salem and there
was one other CM--the blue color.

Saw a great looking C-Man S today coming the opposite direction. We both made an extra effort to exhibit a wave. Nice warm and fuzzy feeling. This is only the third R-60 I've seen in the past six months. One of the other did the wave thing also.
Brought me back to the days when I had a 1964 356 SC Porsche. We did the wave and light flash routine then also.

I had my hood popped in the Target parking lot today to clean some leaves out of the corner, and a guy in a silver MCS honked and waved like crazy as he drove by. That's the second time that I really felt like I was a part of an international brotherhood. Freaking great.
PDX as well, and yeah, not so much. Mostly confused looks from 'regular' MINI drivers, but it does get notice from randoms (thumbs up, craning to look, etc.) and did have a guy in a mint blue metallic '64 Impala come up to me while fueling and ask "Why is your MINI all jacked up?"
Haven't seen another CM other than at the dealer, so jury's out on a potentially higher percentage of recognition...
Whatever... doesn't cost me anything to wave. I'll keep trying.
Cheers,
Tad

I saw a light coffee Countryman this morning on my way to work (my second ever wild Countryman sighting). I was coming to make a right turn, and he was on that road, waiting at the light. I passed within twenty feet of the guy, grinning and waving like a nut, and even flashing my lights, and he either didn't see me or pretended not to see me. Maybe I'll see him again before summer vacation. This time I'll swerve in front of his car honking if I have to.
