R60 run flats vs spare
I think the dealer quoted me $1200 or $1400, can't remember. When I declined he said he could go down to $895 I think, but I had to purchase when the car was purchased. I declined as the roads here are not bad and I will be getting rid of the RF's anyway at some point.
Tires are warranted by their manufacturers. I've never seen it any other way. The tire warranty accounts for defects but not for damage due to road hazards.
the tire warranty or road hazard as they call it covers the tires and the wheels for some amt of years or # of incidents what ever comes first. I am not completely sure how long or how many, hence i am being vague.
In case of a flat they will replace the tire and not fix it. And if there is damage to your wheel they will attempt to fix it and if not, then replace it. When they replace tires it will be OEM and not the one of your choice. I do not know if repairs can be done at any tire store or exclusively at a dealership. But since the replaced tires would be OEM, I am assuming dealership.
One more caveat is that this does not cover curb damage to the wheel while parallel parking etc.
I am not an expert on tires or cars but i have read that when there is a flat in a RF tire, it is best to replace it than repair it.
The car warranty and the maintenance package excludes the tires and wheels so I am inclined to get this. My dealer wants 799 for it, a bit much IMO. But now, I never had a flat on my current car for like 6 years and in the past 3 months i have had 2 flats/slow leaks on non Rf tires. The costco road hazard warranty repaired it for free. But with RFs, I see that they cost like 299 a piece, so I might make my money back.
I am going to suck it up and pull the trigger on this one when i take delivery hopefully next week.
