Noobie - "Thanks"
Noobie - "Thanks"
Noob here....looking at a couple 06 MCS's at the moment that we have narrowed choices down to. White or red...just depends on who gives us the better deal. Only 1K miles seperate the two and they have very similar options. One private seller and one dealer. Private is a member here and I would tend to think (hope) that the folks here are a little more **** about keeping their cars up than dealers care to. This will be the third car in the stable in addition to a Titan and an RX8. Titan is killing us on gas.....so it will be parked unless we need to pull the camper or get a load of mulch......etc.....
Sooooooooo, Just a heads up to say thanks for the site. I've been trolling here for a few weeks to read up on the car and am so glad to see that this is not a bashing site.......the site has been a great help. I'll let you know what we end up with...................thanks again!

Welcome to NAM!
Can you contact the previous owner of the dealer car? Check CARFAX! The only reason I ask is I don't know how many miles are on the car and you might want to make sure you know the history. I wish I would have asked a few more questions but at the end of the day I am very happy with my car and I bought it at a dealer. However, the folks here usually are very '****' (said with pride) and they would probably care for the car the way you would.
If you get into the modding thing, you may look for one that already has what you are looking for. You can save some $$$ by buying one with the toys you want. That being said, the car is fantastic stock, but it is always fun to make yours unique.
Just my $.02.
Enjoy your new car.

Welcome and good luck! Going with the red one? Looks like a great car! (tipped your hand, but good luck to seller and buyer!)

Thanks all!!
Well, the offer fell through. Still on the lookout and trying to figure out what folks mean by "motovated", "desperate", "negotible" and "steal" in their descriptions........despite the market adjustments (price settling) going on with used mini's right now, people don't want to budge on their OBO offers.....

The great vast majority aren't selling because their reserves aren't met. Might be worth watching for one with a decent buy-it-now, or contact the buyer of one that you're interested in to find out what their reserve is at before setting your sights on one.
EDIT:I had a few minutes and was curious... If you list ebay motors-mini-cooper S all the cars for sale come up. on the left is a "completed listings" button, then hit search again. If it's red, it didn't sell, green did, and it says in red if "Reserve Not Met" (most of the unsold). Above a grey line are listings that people paid to "promote" their listings. It'll also be listed below the line. So if you count sold vehicles, 25 out of 165 listings have sold (if I counted right). You can tell which sold for buy-it-now because it'll be green and say so-looks like 11 of the 25, some were "best offer". The "best offer" ones in red didn't sell, ones in green did. Of course, some of the red may have been contacted after and sold.

Thanks for the reply guys.....I am now going back and forth with three sets of folks who's stuff didn't selll on ebay. In addition to the deal that fell through, the MCS I had lined up for second came back with a potential rolled back ODO on carfax......so that is a little disturbing. But the search goes on......have some good leads.....I'll keep ya up to date.....
