representing kcmo

hey peeps. i guess i'm the new kid on the block. i hail from kansas city, mo where i attend medical school and spend my spare time drinking coffee, studying, and trying to purchase a new car...gladly the last one is no longer a hobby. i get my 2007 cooper s in about 1.5 weeks. lightening blue, white roof/mirrors, no options at all except leather steering wheel because i'm a cheap *** and would rather get this than a 2005 with navi and all that **** i'll never use. a few dilemmas i face already:
  • i'm contemplating the union jack roof or mirrors (one or the other; mos def not both) as well as white racing stripes. what do you guys think? yes, no, maybe so? any other aesthetic suggestions?
  • second problem is that i just noticed that the coopers don't come with limited slip, so i'm contemplating making that my first mod. what do you guys think of this?
  • lastly, are they supposed to charge for the leather steering wheel (not the multi-function)? the dealer said it's $300 but miniusa.com lists it as STD.
so anyway, now that i wrote the longest entry post ever and just ruined my chances of anyone reading it, it'll be nice to get to know you all and finally put my four year crush with the mini to an end.

PS. yes i know my username is lame, it's just one of those weird things you create when you're 14yo and it's easier to use than to think of something new and have to keep track of 2436742 usernames.

Are you getting a MCS or MC

Retro-fitting a LSD, if it can even be done, will be outrageously expensive.

I apologize; I just read the abbreviations thread. I'm getting a MCS. As far as the LSD goes, could I not order it from the dealership and have it installed there? The LSD is listed as $500 on MINI's website and I figure installation couldn't be more than a couple hundred bones, but I could be wrong.

I know I missed out on not getting one from the factory, but the reason is because I didn't order my car, I'm simply nabbing one that is coming to port pretty soon (situation required that i get one sooner than ordering one).

You'd have to buy a complete transmission (pn 23007573131)

well that puts a damper on my plans. what would you guys recommend? is it worth it to wait until a different one comes in, or should i just stay with this one without LSD? i don't do auto-x or anything like that, i simply just like driving (not to mention we have some nasty, icy winters here). also, any input on my other questions would be great, too. thanks guys!

Welcome to Nam!! It would probably be cheaper to buy a beater and drive it in the winter.

you won't need a limited slip for everyday driving and the ocasional spirited drive. As long as your S has traction control (standard) and dsc (optional) you should be fine for winter. I am sure Quaife will make a LSD but you are looking at over 1000 bucks just for the differential and then over 1000 to intall it.

If you plan on doing some seroius power upgrades a good differential will help you make the ost of that power but it is not neccessary.

Yeah, I guess I'm just gonna not worry about it. I don't plan on doing any major upgrades since I can't work (full-time, hardcore student); plus, if I do get some money (b-day, Christmas) I'll probably get suckered into buying wheels/suspension or something like that first.

JohnBLZ: I already chedked it out and am waiting on my confirmation. I plan to attend the April 21 meet if possible and if I have my car by then.

Well, not that anybody probably cares, but change in plans. I ended up getting a 2007 PW MCS black roof/mirrors with LSD, Sport suspension, cold weather package, multi-function wheel, and clear turn signals. Ended up nabbing this one earlier than I could the blue one and I'm more happy with it. So it has a few things I really don't care for, but it's got the things I'm happy with too (namely LSD). BTW, any opinions on the sport suspension over stock yet? Cheers.

Welcome to NAM. I hope that you are doing well in the KCMO area. I have not been there is a few years.
Have you actually taking delivery yet?

Sport Susp is nice

It's not quite as rough as the R53 susp but it grips as well.

When will you pick it up? Who was your MA?

Welcome to NAM. I'm from KCMO also but I don't have a MINI. LOL. I hang out with the KC Mini Club crew too. I'm Counterfit_Mini over there.

Great!

Make sure you pick up a set of rubber mats as well (~$60)...I swear dirt loves the MINI!

Between my mats and the brake dust on my wheels..I think I've cleaned RUSKA more times than any car I've had prior..

I was contemplating the rubber mats, but the cream-colored pinstripe mats are very tempting, esp with the PW body...i'll look into it. I may end up just holding off on the rubber mats until winter time.

Welcome! I am also in the KC area, and trust me you will want the rubber mats come winter. It is amazing how much sand and salt will come in on your shoes.

PS. the KC MINI club is meeting this weekend, and we always like to meet new people You can get more info at KCMINICLUB.COM.
