Finally the Official Wait Begins

I finally placed an order for a R56 at Classic MINI in Ohio, MCS CR/B, Cold Weather Package (I live in Anchorage, AK), DSC, LSD, SS, Rear Fog, Xenon, Sunroof, & Cloth Seats. Now the hardest decision ; getting it home is either $2,100 shipping or driving 4,000 mile (6-8 days). Any opinions?

Mark

Drive! It's a MINI for goodness sake!

But if your gonna drive, just vary the speed during the break-in period. Just think; by the time you get home it will be broken in!

Seriously, if you are spending 6-8 days on the road, it may end up being cheaper to ship it. That being said, I bet it would be a beautiful drive from Ohio to Anchorage!

Congrats and good luck either way...

You might consider options for doing an oil change along the way if needed - I don't recall if one is needed at 1250 miles. I agree, the break in might not be ideal with lots of highway. You'll have to think about that....but it sure would be fun!

I think it depends on when Classic has your Mini on hand. A summer trip could be fun, but I don't know if I'd want to be on the AlCan immediately after the spring thaw.

I don't think 4000 miles of straight interstate driving would be the best way to break in the motor.

Maybe you should ship it....?
Although I am familiar with the roads in Anchorage (lived there in 05) and I know that some to most have their annual potholes, so the alcan might not be that bad comparitively...this time of year, especially with the cold weather package.... So if you have the time, go for it!
I know I enjoy roadtrips more when I don't have to be home at a certain date...
But hey, congrats!!! You saved money on it to begin with by buying a car in the lower 48! Looking forward to getting one myself. Enjoy!!!
And let us know what you decide? and how the trip goes!
