I've never driven a stick shift before. But I'm willing to learn for the MINI. I'm just hesitant about learning on a brand new $25k+ car...

Stick shift! No practical reasons for me; it's simply more fun! It's all about control...

Manual - it's my first time driving one in about 6 years, but it seemed like the best way to get the most out of my MINI experience.

Stick. It's the only way to drive. It kills me when I see a hot sports car with an automatic, what a waste.

I believe the phrase is proper 6 speed Getrag manual gear box

Course there are many that drive auto and I can say that of all the autos I've driven, MINI is the best yet; just isn't for me though.

Any car I'll ever own will be a manual...

Unless, of course, I live in Los Angeles or somethin'

OK. Can't resist.

CVTs bite.

Sticks and clutches are okay if you really like old, low tech stuff.
I mean, if you still like to wash your clothes with a washboard and washtub, and cut the wood you use to heat your house, and read by lamplight, and you raise sheep, stuff like that.

6 speed automatics with paddles rock. True, a real robotic sequential paddle shifter would be better than what you can get in the MINI. But the ability to keep both hands on the wheel while shifting on twisties under power is a wonderful thing. And when driving in a straight line I can shift while drinking my latte. Oh, the luxury of it.

But if I were buying a MINI for the track, it would be a manual.

To me stick is the only way to enjoy an engine and the driving experience fully. Paddle shifts cant compare in pleasure of shifting gears, even if it does shift faster. You know bmw is finally re-releasing the M5 with a 6 speed manual because thats what the enthusists prefer, i mean thats the only reason i didn't buy one (and an M5 is a little out of my financial reach) or an enzo for that matter

I have driving all sorts of manual transmission vehicles from work trucks to sports cars. The paddle shift of the true 6 speed auto in the MINI is by far more fun. Being able to keep the RPMs up and shift without moving from the steering wheel.
I understand that an auto is not for everyone, however, it does not make it less MINI either. Fun to drive either way.
Happy Motoring.

+1 for stick. More control over the power to the wheels = more fun IMO.

My MC is CVT and my JCW MCSC is stick.

The correct answer is: STICK!
