Thinking to buy a MINI, need some advice...

Hi, I'm considering to buy a Mini, and I'd need some advice so here a few questions, in random order, about the current (02-06) models. I like spirited driving and the occasional autocross run:
- is there a consensus on what's the best wheel size for the Mini? Are the stock 16" MCS rims ok or everybody believes that 17s are a must-have? As for tire size, stick with stock or go wider? Falken RT615 anyone?
- does the MCS have stiffer springs / swaybars than the MC, or the differences are only in the engine (don't care much about interior features)?
- for autcross, does the (lighter) MC perform much worse than a loaded (heavier) MCS? Around here, used or new, it seems difficult to find an MCS that is not loaded with optionals...
- between the MC and MCS, which one will improve more if you dump - say - 1 or 2000 dollars into the engine? Or better, are there any known and cheap ways to get more HPs from the MC/MCS? For example, the ECU of my WRX was reflashed, and that gave me a 30HP increase, nice and clean. Is there something similar for the Mini?

I know some of these questions (all?) are a bit akward, but I'm still undecided between a new 06 MC or a used MCS... or maybe a used MC to tinker with... I'm confused... eheheh....

Thanks,
Alex

I will only address the first question. The 17" are good for handling but tough on the kidneys. I would recommend 16" for a daily driver in a metro area. Non runflats are better than runflats. This may have something to do with MCS (runflats standard) and MC (non runflats).

I will let others address your other questions.

Good Luck!

I'm afraid I possess no techincal expertise when it comes to MINIs (or much of anything else for that matter), but I did want to tell you: WELCOME!

For autocross the MCS definetly offers a lot more acceleration, but you are right in saying that it is harder to find a MCS with little or no options.

If your going for performance you should definetly get a MCS. For 1 or 2 thousand dollars, they will both improve about the same. As far as other parts, they both have the same suspension, but a sport suspension is optional for the S.

Thank you, and all those who responded so far...
It seems (as it was pretty obvious) that if you like driving fast, the MCS is the way to go... I guess I'll look around for a used one, hopefully with as little options as possible...
