Hey!

Hi all,

I'm just a wanna-be Mini owner. I've been an admirer of the New Mini for quite some time. When the time is right I'd like to get one. For now this is as close as I can get.

I consider myself a newb auto enthusiast and forum user... so I apologize in advance for my newbness.

Just wondering how many of you are in a wife and 2 kids+ situation and have been able to buy or keep your Mini. I can only envy those that can make space for a Mini in the family. Right now wer'e restricted to two functional vehicles. I drive a 4x4 3/4 ton truck now and I miss the feel of an agile MT car.

Hi and welcome to NAM. MINI's are great and there is a whole thread on the issue of wife, kids and MINI's.

Be aware that there is a new BMW MINI (the R56) out in Europe already with deliveries to the US in Feb onwards.

Sweet! I would have never thought it would be directly addressed. I can't wait to read through the thread.

Nah... I think it is. I just caught something. MINI... not Mini. Thats almost like farting in class on your first day at a new school...

I can't believe I missed it. The car reviews I've read over the years or the MINI brochures I have, the countless visits to the website and JCW subsite... BTW loved the sound and video clips on the old JCW site. Used to play them in the background as I would work on projects at home.

Cummins,
Nice catch on the Mini / MINI you have been brushing-up on your knowledge.

Admiration is the first step, where we all started.
Step Two - Drive one.
Step Three - you're addicted, its too late.
Step Four - Feed addiction. This is your Support Group

So welcome to NAM, nice to have you here.
Good luck with the inevitable MINI, or Mini

Keep your other family haulers, and have "an affair on the side" with a MINI, perhaps a used one if money is an issue.

By the way, don't test drive a MINI, because if you do, you'll certainly be HOOKED!

Welcome to NAM. MINI's are great family cars. Read the thread that address the kids.
I agree do not test drive one until you are ready.

sell the truck and buy a mini. If funds are limited, do what I did....buy a classic which are cheaper and then buy what you really want when more funds become available.

btw I now own to classics and an 05 MCS

Thanks for the input all. Sorry for not responding earlier. Selling the truck would definitely help with getting a MINI but I got it because of the projects that I have. I figure the truck could be stored at my parents place and just pick it up when I need it. It'll come down to money and a new car for myself comes after a new car for the wife... I'm working on it though and I'm prepping the wife and the kids by educating them on the MINI. (Convincing her to get a MINI so I can drive it is not in the works. I'm not that desperate yet.)

elprofe 3 Minis? You planning on getting one Mini for each day of the week?!

Feed the addiction?! I've been experiencing something like that but probably a more mild form of what can be had from driving a MINI. I've been going through withdraws from not having an MT agile car since selling my sport coupe. I shouldn't test drive the MINI then if it is as addictive as you all say it is. I already think about the car too much. My wife's automatic Corolla is the closest I can get to a sporty car right now and it feels great compared to my truck. I know I'm delusional.

My wife bugged me for months to test drive a MINI. I kept putting it off.
I test drove one.
They are building it now.
I am looking ahead to order one just for me.
They are addictive!

So you can identify with my need to have something sporty. Lucky you get to have both.

I picked up a 92 4x4 250 last March. In terms of affordability it was either going to be a 1st gen or a 2nd gen especially because of the money I "lost" owning the car I had before the truck. I went with the 1st gen because I like the styling and less computer wizardry also because I wanted to learn more about repair work. I feel like I've had more than my share since buying the truck. But of course all the issues did not involve the engine.

I know my sig has a dually. Its just a random pic I found online.

I have an '89 W250. I bought it fresh and new, and it's been a workhorse since. I rebuilt the trans in '03 (which caused me to seek out a new car while I tore down the truck, and that is how I ended up with the MINI!). Other than mostly wear items, nothing else needed to be replaced on the old beasty over time. It's not the flawless gem it was in early years though, since I beat the hell out of it over the years, it's starting to look like an 18+ year old truck that was 'rode hard and put away wet'. Still, it owes me nothing, it's done just about everything I asked of it. This year, though, I bought a 26' travel trailer. Time will tell how well the old beasty handles hauling that all over. Since it's an early automatic, it might not fair well, despite my efforts at beefing up the trans and it's cooling.

Hi and welcome to NAM, I have a wife and two boy's, ages 8 and 14, we all fit and still have a trunk . Just had three teenagers and me in the car last night, no problems except them wanting to fight eachother in the back seat . Once you dump the kid's plenty of room for other thing's.

Hmmm... Tear down truck. Get a MINI. I like the sound of that.

Thats one of my major concerns. I have a feeling the children would love the car now (ages 5 and 7) but I wonder if they'd enjoy it just as much riding in the back when they get older. I did a search to see if teenagers enjoy riding in the car too but couldn't find much. Don't want to have to discipline them for not liking the car.
