New Mini Owner

Hello to all. I am a new Mini owner, just got it last friday. 2006 model automatic. I love it. Just joined NAM today, and looking forward to being involved in the club. I did a lot of research on small sporty cars, and I chose the Mini. Great product, but I have lots to learn as far as accessories and mods for the Mini. I didn't get the S model. Can I get some advice and help from anyone? There seems to be a lag in the throttle when first accelerating, is this normal since the gas pedal runs on a sensor rather than a cable? Are there mods for this? What should I be thinking of purchasing to increase performance and look of my Mini? Thanks for the help.

<<chases away the crickets>>

WELCOME ! Glad to have you on board, "body".

About your engine's hesitation in first gear: Part of the "charm" of the MINI that I've gotten used to after 5 months of ownership. We actually took one of ours into the service dept after a month for fear something was amiss (hadn't found this board yet). As far as mods go, I'm sure others can help you in that department. Me... I'm quite happy with my MC with the CVT in sport mode (do you have an auto with the CVT ?)... quite enough zippiness for my taste.

BTW, better post some pics SOON or you'll be hearing it from the crowd. Until then, give us some specs on your new baby !

Welcome to NAM! The drive-by-wire thing takes some getting used to. Obviously the solution us stick owners use (blip the throttle prior to take-off) won't work for you, but I'll bet a search will yield some helpful hints!

With the CVT you have to be really careful not to make to much power. I would say go with Intake and exhaust and you should have alittle more power but still be safe.

Keep in mind that if you have a Cooper, you already have a tuned normally-aspirated MINI...it is basically a MINI One that is tuned at the factory. So big performance gains are harder to come by. One can spend a lot of money and get very little added hp...and the tranny has it's limits, too. So, yes, you can add the small mods mentioned (exhaust, intake) and get better sound and maybe a little hp increase, but that's about it. Not a problem. The bigger thing, and the thing I'd recommend, is to learn all you can about driving the CVT effectively, especially using sport mode. This is a driver mod and will made the biggest difference. Believe it or not, folks successfully race these little beasts!!! I for one would never underestimate a CVT Cooper in the right hands. So, aside from that, there are styling and convenience mods galore...I'd spend my time there and just simply learn to drive the beast.

Welcome to NAM!!!

Hey,

Give us a call when your ready for some cooper mods! gokartride is right you can spend quite a bit of money and see little gain afterwards. We dyno'd a couple of mini's this past weekend. The end results surprize me sometimes.. whats suposed to give you 10-15 HP actually makes about 3-5 HP to the ground. We carry a varierty of exhaust and intakes which will get you started! I'd probably start with an alta intake myself. Be careful it becomes addicting

Visit promini, I believe if not mistaken, they have two pumped up Coopers with upgrade specs. I can't remember for there are like several mini upgrade site. I visited every site possible and studied the true potentials while Kouper-S was being borned. Now I KNOW exactly what to do and how to do it..... just waiting for the money .......... Kouper-S is now 6 mo's old- just go to yahoo search and type "mini cooper tuning" all the main sites will pop up.

As a owner of a automatic mini, myself, I must encourage you to be patient. It seems that after the break in 1200 miles...it gets a lot zippy-er!

My mini just had it's 1st month b-day with 2100 miles! It was a little sluggish to begin with...but, now WHOAH!

Silver Mini Convertible, w/everything but warmed seats...and thats a good thing since there was recent debate over them causing hemmeroids!

Welcome to NAM. Your are definately in the right place to find out just about anything you care to know about the new addition you have, known to others as a MINI.

Grow on you?!? Can you say "obsession"! The mods are a slippery slope. I've only had my 02 MCS since late June and I can't beleive what I've done already let alone what else I have in mind. And all I want to do is DRIVE! Have fun with your new toy and enjoy the info available here on NAM.
