I just got my first MINI, a 2004 S, light blue/black, manual. So far, a couple of things are keeping me from really enjoying it. One is the excessively harsh ride, and the second is the excessive oscillation of the drivetrain in first and second gear when getting on or lifting off the gas. I've seen a lot of talk on this site about replacing the run flats. Is there a consensus for a tire that will give: (in order of importance) a good ride, low noise and good handling? And do the stock wheels accept non-run flats?
I noticed also discussion of an aftermarket engine mount. Is this a good way to deal with the oscillation? Any drawbacks?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

I've heard very good things about the engine damper in its ability to stop the oscilations. The standard wheels will accept non-runflats, and you should get a better ride and probably more grip with regular performance tires.
If you put non runflats on one of these persons cars, I bet they wouldnt ever know the difference.
If enough people complain, everyone will think the runflats are bad on any car and takes on those affects.
