New to Forum, No Mini yet, Eye surgery.
Well this is my story,
I don't have a Mini as of yet but have plans to own one in the future. The main reason that I don't have one already is because I have been going through some eye surgeries due to diabetes. I have had 18 surgeries in the past 2 yeears. I have a silacone oil in both of my eyes which blurs the vision pretty badly. I have had detached retinas in both eyes as well. So as you probably can guess I am in no condition to drive a vehicle at this time. The hope is that everything will get good enough to be correctedd with eye glasses, so that I can drive again. The next surgery is to remove the oil and hopefully give me some good vision to get me on the road to driving a car again.
I currently own an old Honda civic hatchback that I have done a motor swap, suspension and many other things. I have made it handle really well and I have made it fast. These days I am tired of the really fast and really want a car that can handle the turns and the twisties. I have been looking at the Mini for years now but haven't gone as far as driving or getting one.
I was looking sometime ago at the classic mini because I wanted the small go-cart feel, but I am comming to the realization that I don't want to do all the work to keep it up and or restore. Don't get me wrong I like working on cars, I was a mechanic at a Toyota dealership for years before I had to go on disability. Now I am thinking of getting the new mini because of being able to just turn the key and just drive it instead of working on it.
Any suggestions for which way to go, new or classic, if and when I am able to drive again?
Thanks for all the help and opinions, and also thanks for reading my long and drab story,
Gilman.

Welcome to NAM. Sounds like the New one would be a sight for your sore eyes, so to speak. The classic would be nice, but as you stated the new one is a turn key.
Good luck and have a safe and successful recovery.

Welcome! Don't worry about you're story being long. As i found out (being a new member...and new mini owner) you'll find some really nice and helpful people here. Trust me...whatever mini you decide to get will be worth the wait! Good luck with the surgery.!
