Is premium PKG worth it?
Is premium PKG worth it?
Hi, i already ordered my MCS and got production number but hasnt been scheduled for production. I got the premium package with it and was wondering if the On-board computer is useful or kind of pointless. I mostly got the package because of the sunroof, but as for the Multi-function wheel, on board comp, and auto A/C i don't really need. At the moment of placing the order i guess the computer seemed cool but ive been thinking about maybe just getting the Sun roof alone without anything else and using the money that i would save for other things.
What do you guys think, does it come in handy or nay.

Get it!
I use the trip computer more than I thought I would and it's not obtrusive.
Multi-function wheel is an excellent option, keeps your hands on the wheel so you don't have to look away to the radio. Auto AC works good also.
Along with the sunroof, they combine to make your MINI a more pleasant motoring experience.

I decided it wasn't
I'm still waiting for my MCSa Cabrio to be completed. I decided that none of the packages were what i really wanted and decided to just pick and choose my features. An interesting thing is some of the packages overlap with other features. For instance, if you get the Chrono-Pak, you will auttomatically get the on-board computer which is also included in the premium pkg...which then makes the premium pkg a less attractive way to go. I wanted DSC, but I didn't want 17" tires, so the sport package wasn't for me either. All in all I ended up saving money by not going with the packages but getting only the things that I really wanted. The packages are a way to get you to buy more options because they seem like a good deal.
Strangely, there is also overlap with the Chrono-Pak and auxillary gauges. I don't need 2 oil temperature gauges.

The computer is silly, the auto air is nice, never use the steering wheel controls, sun roof is great but noisy when open.

I think it is, but it comes down to if you are a sunroof person, which if you are considering the package, you must be. The sunroof really opens up the car and the MFSW is awesome other than the missing mode button. So get the package you'll regret it if you don't, IMO.
yeah i vote as well for premium if you like sunroofs. I do not like sunroofs and so I didnt! but, thats preference as I wanted a solid color on my mini top and bottom and the car is kept outdoors in the sun 24/7
exactly....I think the only two options on this car that will hurt it's resale value if not chosen is the sunroof and MFSW.....cruise is very important to most people and the sunroof is so common that a car without would seem less attractive than all the other options to a used buyer
At the very least I would get the MFSW just for resale values sake and it's a great feature anyway.
I didn't get any package and picked ala carte. I got the Auto AC and MFSW from the premium package. The onboard computer seems a waste since it only adds range/mileage info and tends to be overly optimistic. It's better to just do it yourself. The range feature was the only thing that seemed like it might be useful, but not worth the cost. If the sunroof had proper plastic covers I probably would have gotten it, but the mesh things are just not good enough.
In the end, it's up to you.

I love the premium package on mine and the I use all the features most daily. I couldnt see getting another MINI without it...for that matter I could go without the cold weather and sport pkg either !
My main reason for not getting the premium package (#1) is that it has the sunroof and the automatic AC. I prefer not to have the weight of the sunroof up high and I prefer the manual AC controls. I have spent time in a loaner with the premium pack. The sunroof is OK but the amount of sunlight gets in is insanely large. The Automatic AC was a total pain in the buttox.
I went ala carte to get my MFSW and On Board Computer.

I know I'm in the minority here, but what the hey, I'm used to it. I really don't understand everyone's love for cruise control. The MINI is a driver's car. I don't care if I'm going on a 1000 mile trip across the desert wtih no curves, no hills and no traffic... I want to drive the car with my own hands and feet and brain (admittedly not as sharp as it used to be, hehe). I have had cruise on a lot of my previous cars and never think about turning it on. I enjoy driving too much.

All Right, Yo'Dad! I thought I was going to get burned at the stake for saying this. I was fortunate enough to get an awesome car that makes me think I am driving a classic sports car. Since my budget was already screaming in pain, I passed on all options except leather (classic interior material) and exterior chrome (again the classic look). The only things I wish I had (except JCW
) are interior chrome, front fogs, and driving lights, all doable when my budget can stand the hit.

Dont get packages, unless every single thing in the pkg is something you absolutely want. I picked all my options individually and saved some $$$ on things i didnt absolutely want/need. Good way to keep the cost of the car down, and still get what you want.
