I am new to your site and we are expecting our WORKS GP at the end of October from San Antiono. We are considering some mods but not real sure as to what just yet. We owned a 04' MCSDS for about 7 months and made the B-I-G mistake of trading it in on a 04' Pontiac GTO. After 2 long years of lemon issues with the car, we finally got GM to buy it back. So that being said, we have now come to our senses and back for good!

TagURit is a great online name! Welcome back to the MINI cult.

A Pontiac, huh? I'm sure there is lots of head shaking going on in this forum!

Can't imagine why you'd want to mod a JP...It seems to me they are rockets right out of the box!

Well, it is absolutely a collectors car. I wouldn't do any mods at all. Any you do will lower the vaue of the GP.

Couldn't have said it better myself so I won't try.

Not exactly, I don't think. Cosmetic...yes, for sure but some invisible mods....I don't know. What about Koni FSD's? Tires different than OEM? Surgical excision of the "govenor", i.e. ECU mods? Things/actions not apparent but designed to make the GP go faster or handle better may enhance, not diminish it's value. What say ye purists? or ?

As someone who has been involved in classic and collectable cars for 30 years, if you do ANY mods, the value goes down the tubes on a collectable car.

Well, something tells me they aren't buying the GP to put it in suspended animation so as to squeeze every last nickle out of it in 30 years but I understand your point having watched enough auctions on SPEED Channel.

FIrst, any car with 2000 units sold worldwide will NEVER be rare. Having just sold my 1 of 1000 MC40s .... WAY too many cars (420 in the US also means squat). The car will never be a collectible. Its just not unique enough nor have anything special about it (like a huge engine) to matter.

Rare is when you have 1 of 2 '71 Hemi Cuda Convertables ever made.

IMHO, do NOT mod anything. Don't touch a thing. Adding anything will only detract from its value to a future buyer. As to hidden anything ... nothing is hidden. I hade two independent appraiser take more than an hour each go over my car from top to bottom. They knew exactly what they were buying.

If you intend to keep the car "forever" for your enjoyment ... they do whatever pleases you. ...

If you want to resell one day ... do not touch it.

If you have illusions of owning a true collectible ...

Just drive the car ... have a ball ... enjoy it for what it is ... FUN!
