How much depoist should I pay?

Hello,

I am about heading to Mini dealer to place my order for 07 MCS. How much is the min requirement placing an order? I am in Southern California.

Anyone know the wait time?

Thanks.

It's different from dealer to dealer. I've seen some up to $2000. We didn't have to leave a dime where we went. (Niello)

I gave Irvine Mini a check for $1k to get my place in line, and everyone out here on the left coast seems to be saying 6 - 8 weeks. Mine's been on order since 8/27, and is sitting on the dock waiting to get on a ship for the cruise to the west coast. Check out the sticky on tracking your mini - great advise there! Congrats!

homerwest,

Are you ordering 06 or 07? Do you mind telling me how much?

Just finished my 1st time test drive on 06 S hardtop at Santa Ana dealership. Very impressive machine. The sales is telling me msrp for 06 to order one. $4-5k mark up for in stock 06.

$1,000 deposite when the bank slot is avaliable for 07 (around November-December). At this moment, just put name on the list without deposite and wait for the bank slot. The sales indicate most likely some mark up will be add over msrp for 07.

My question: anyone know which dealer will sell 07 for msrp? or may be even below the sticker?

I need new car within 3 months.

Thanks.

At Niello in Sacramento, we did not have to leave a deposit to order, and had our 06 in two and a half month.

$500

The most I would put down is $500. That's what I put down on my 2006. They said $1000 at first, but when I laughed out loud & got up to leave it changed to $500. Make sure the deposit is refundable.

I'd bet that there is some flexability in the deposit amount, as Crashton points out. The dealership probably won't want to lose business over the amount on a check they will probably never cash... Negotiate and be willing to walk out the door.

I paid $500 in Dallas, TX.

06, since it is a convertible (won't make a change for a year or two), and paid MSRP.

Don't count on a 2007 in that time frame, and remember Nancy Reagan, "Just say NO.." to markups over MSRP and deposits over $500 that aren't designated, Refundable in FULL, put it on your check as well.

Put your deposit on a credit card; your credit card company should fight for you if something goes haywire.

Did $2000 at Universal, but it didn't really matter to me as we knew what we wanted and had the cash for it. Either way I would be paying it to them then or when I picked up the car. I've always done large deposits when I've ordered a car, for most dealers it's a sign of good faith that the car they are custom ordering for you will be sold and they don't have to worry about it sitting on the lot and possibly taking long enough to sell that they have to start paying the financing on it. At MINI I would say it's a little different since they actually want you to order the car. Overall this should make MINI dealers more profitable as they will very rarely have excess inventory sitting on thelot that they are actually paying for. Hmm... not a bad business model now that I think about it.

I went to Crevier...it was a hard decision between an 06 JCW or wait for an 07 MCS turbo. Either way, it was a $1K deposit. However, the expected delivery of an 07 was March, and they expected Dealer Markup was $2-5K - they haven't finalized it yet but it was around $3-5K when the 1st generation MINIs came out so expect the same. Crevier has probably the largest amount of slots available. You can go somewhere else and pay little or no markup but expect a longer waiting time because of limited productions slots (so be top of the list if you can).

I went with an 06 JCW - MSRP - and quicker delivery.
