Worries about no 2006's groundless until February 2007

I live in a highly populated area with massive wealth, aka, the "tristate" area around NYcity. I was reading posts about no more 2006's and people commenting that you must rush now or nothing.

I was just at my dealer figuring out my last details I want added on, when this question came up. the 2007 cars will not be around until February and orders of 2006 will be taken past december. Cars fly out of this area fast on account of the yuppism/wealth/ population. if the well dries up, it dries up here first. Everything sold is an order model except for 2-3 cars on the lot the salesman said.

If a dealer says no more 2006's or buy this month or nothing, they have little connections or are conning you. My car that I ordered 7 days ago doesnt even have a production number and there are 2 other sets of times I could choose from if I wanted it later. I could get it even later than november but I didnt want that at all.

Just a bit of info to lift people up and not have to think about the 2007 *blech*!

That's good information. I think from what I have read is that some dealerships, that may not have as many allocations for the end of the year, might be getting close to selling all the 2006's they can special order. A nice advantage of living where you do is that there are a few dealers and large volumes of cars sold, hence more allocations of cars.

Congratulations on your ride! Nice to see another one make a decision for an '06 with the '07's around the corner. That's what I did after reading about some of the changes on the '07 that drove me to get an '06 now.

I was told essentially the same thing (except my dealer said January, not February, but whatever, close enough), and I'm in an area where the allocations are so backlogged that my wait is almost 4 months. People were talking a few weeks ago about the factory being "retooled" in August for the 2007 production, but after speaking with folks at MINI, that doesn't happen until January. So I don't know...there's a lot of conflicting information out there and while the allocation thing makes sense, I'm not so sure that's the answer, either.

Well, the plant actually DID shut down the first two weeks of August. It reopened on August 14th. My MINI started production on July 24th and then didn't get finished until August 15th. It was stuck in the 'body shop' mode for the time the plant shut down. Many people in the weeks after have had theirs delayed a bit more...

The thing with the 2006's is it all depends on where you are and your dealer on how late you can order an 06. The last 'custom' 06s are supposed to be built in October, and then they will all be pre-speced. The production of 07s is supposed to begin in November (but these will be for Europe, etc.).

While I am sure things are underway to make room for 2007 production, cars can be ordered and delivered at Christmas time that are fully custom and 2006 models from NY. I think my dealer has an allotment and then another allotment after this one. if that makes any sense?

There should not be a problem with supply, however here in Canada the cars coming in or available to order consist of a single model MCS called the Rallye edition, and a single model MC called the Soho edition. If I was buying now prior to the new 2007's I would be disappointed in this tactic, as these special editions are fairly loaded up models with sunroof and/or H/K sound systems etc. that drive the price up and severely limit buyer's choice.
