I think in NYCity they just say, "sometime in october". I wasnt given a number or anything of the sort. When are you issued one or was I supposed to be when I bought the car 2 days ago? (ordered it with a deposit)

 

It varies from one dealer to the next. Just bug your Motoring Advisor (salesperson). Once they have one, they'll give it to you and then you can register at the Owner's Lounge (http://ol.miniusa.com )

 

The production number also ties that particular car (before a VIN is attached to it) to your name. Combined with a deposit, you have proof of purchase of the car. If the car mysteriously disappears on you (don't laugh, it happened to me in a prior lifetime), at least in California, you have some leverage on MINI/BMW.

A production number is created as soon as the car order is entered in the factory's production system. If you have not been given a production number, it is because the MA has not entered your order yet.

 

Lowri at Mini Manhattan should e-mail you a scanned thing with the car's spec on... production number should be on there... I am going back there to pick mine up on Thursday...
